I don't remember the original Major Tom looking like that though I was aware of the new Major Tom. I guess it wasn't the original. I see the Major Tom I'm familiar with later in show.

Um, yes. Although it was POSSIBLE to build a robot for £100, it was only ADVISABLE if your opponents had the same budget restrictions. Building heavyweight bots for no dosh back then was pretty frustrating; but the motor, battery, weapon, radio and materials tech simply didn't exist to make tiny robots - feisty little ant-weight, beetle-weight, Bugglebot machines - which would have made the cash go much further. I imagine two of today's teeny-weeny flea-weight robots could have used Tom's upturned body shell as a combat arena. Plenty of space in Major Tom... (Did you see what I did there? No applause, please - just send cash and I'll invest it wisely.)
