MAJOR Topper Restoration

In today's video, I take in the old topper we have for cutting long grass on the farm. The topper is probably 15 to 20 years old and had a lot of corrosion on the frame but it is still working quite well. I decided to restore the steel on the frame so that involved cutting and removing all the rust steel and preparing it for welding. I purchased a 2mm 8' x 4' sheet of mild steel for €50 for the project. I cut all steel to the correct size and welded it in place. Finally, I gave the topper a fresh lick of green paint.

I’m doing something similar but just way more overkill, I’m going to rebuild my gearbox and powder coat it and I’m going to put cross supports in and then I will buy checkered galvanised 4mm plating and try do it in two pieces and tap and thread them so I can lift the smaller on with a ratchet to sharpen drone above, I will also install a toolbox with a file , grease gun ,shear bolts and the spanner’s needed so I can fix in the field, this is overkill though because I have two much time on my hands

New sub from Kilchreest. I have exactly the same project to do at the end of the year. Rot on top at the back of my Major topper. I notice you cut the front and rear sections out, leaving the gearbox mount. Is this a separate piece or just more of a convenience to not have to strip blade assembly and gearbox off the machine. Oh Thats very cool, thanks for the sub man. Um well i did that for convenience but also the middle section has more structure under it that the rest of the sheeting. I felt it still had plenty of life in it and yeah it would've been much bigger job to remove the gearbox and blades. Hope this answers your question, and do let me know how you get on with it. 👍
