Congratulations! We're Lake Michigan boaters, and I've always dreamed of traversing the Great Loop. I look forward to watching your adventures. Congratulations on your growing family as well. If not a trawler, which is very popular for the loop, I recommend Cruiser Yachts or Meridians. Aft cabins specifically because there is a lot of space, multiple heads, and storage galore. Happy boat shopping and beware if 2 foot-itis.

I went to St Louis to buy a boat that was in the middle of doing the loop last year. I did tons of homework on the loop and was really excited about it. The boat had lots of undisclosed problems so I didn't end up buying it.. Maybe I'll see you out there because I'm still looking

@@MathersOnTheMap Hire a surveyor. I knew of a few things that needed fixed but the pics were misleading. It really needed a total remodel on top of a few mechanical things. I remember he had bought a new fridge but it only ran on 120v and taken the 12v system out. no inverter so nothing worked unless plugged into shore power.

Remember to check the lock sizes in the loop before you buy your boat. The trip up the Hudson then Lake Ontario and the Trent Severn will take you to Lake Huron and is beautiful but there are many locks. The trip to Chicago and the Mississippi from Huron is very long but you need a bigger boat for the big Great Lakes.

I am not sure what your budget is but the great thing about boats is fiberglass lasts almost forever. Older boats are awesome and way cheaper. Because your plan is to do the great loop you don’t need the newest and the fastest boat. Don’t be afraid to look at the old boats. Good luck. I can’t wait to see what you get.
