I loved his passion , eccentric stubborn and intelligent. Love him or hate him, you had to admire the man. I think we need people in life like him, unique. Happy trails.🖌️🎨👍

He was truly unique and though I initially thought he was affected, rank his grand tour and sadly limited video output amongst the very best introduction to art I've ever found. It's quite remarkable that he wasn't more widely valued while he was alive and was treated almost as an eccentric and curiosity.

The Stone Roses Track called Guernica is quite something. Worth a listen with headphones on. Kind of their forgotten masterpiece for me.

Such a classy act; such a shame he didn’t do more programmes. As he said on ‘The Grand Tour’, he had an ambivalent attitude to telly…

I do hope that Guernica's glove wasn't thrown out when Brian Sewell died. But I suppose the world is full of 'Guernica gloves'. I have many meaningful objects (To me.) when I die, most of them without context will seem worthless junk.

The comments are vapid and ignorant. I’ve seen Guernica at the Prado. Wonderful and terrible! Thanks, Brian. You were the best. Sorry about the petty bourgeoisie. Rip.

Wonder what he did do with that glove?

That glove scene is not on the DVD

That's right. I saw the series on TV years ago before I bought the DVD, and was puzzled (and disappointed) when I saw that the Guernica clip was missing.

That's right, I've not seen the Guernica scene for twenty years and was beginning to wonder if I'd imagined it! I've rewatched the beginning of the DVD episode 4 just to be sure, and it does indeed jump straight from Berneo (with the fishing boat and the flood) to Bilbao. The resulting DVD episode is only 19 minutes long. A shame, as it enriches the theme of the episode, that art is transplanting religion in the modern world, with its relics and its credulousness and its high priests and its cathedrals. I wonder why it had to be cut? Copyright maybe? Thanks for posting, much appreciated.

Anyone know the guitar piece ?
@roderickspode6657 Жыл бұрын
The piece during the Guggenheim footage is a rendition of a flamenco toque called soleares by a very average guitarist.

My wife recently ordered a ‘chandelier’ on the internet which, when it had arrived and been installed, was so gloriously ugly that I imagined Brian appearing as a force ghost next to me (like Alec Guinness in Star Wars) and exclaiming: “It’s utterly hideous!” A truly remarkable man indeed, and one who left an impact upon our shared consciousness and culture.

My six year daughter could do better ! I hope that Brian Sewell is working his way through purgatory. May we meet in heaven.

@IngridLindbohm Well, after that ignorant comment you won't be meeting Brian in heaven. He'll of course be there, but you'll be in the 7th circle of hell.
