I actually go to Texas State where the Harry Styles course is being offered, and our honors college has a history of offering some really cool classes. I took one on the political ecology in the Hunger Games series where we read/watched the entire series and discussed our thoughts. TXST is a great school and I’m kinda disappointed I didn’t sign up for the HS course in time!

fan culture is really crossing a line now days, it’s always been bad but now with social media it’s a new level of obsession, stalking and strange parasocial relationships. it’s scary seeing people make one person/one band/one show/one sport/one genre of music etc their entire personality. please develop who you are outside of some rich person or literal corporation who doesn’t know you exist, PLEASE! be your own person. and develop your own opinions outside of tumblr/twitter echo chambers. out of curiosity, are most of kurtis’ viewers young teens? i’ve never felt more like a grandma than when reading these comments, and i’m only in my mid twenties!
@TheWintergoat
@TheWintergoat 2 жыл бұрын
I reckon they are. I'm an older guy but sometimes I wonder if Kurtis shouldn't address these parasocial fans of his responsibly and make it clear how the relationship between a famous person and a fan is almost purely one way. Anyway yeah, these comments make me feel old as balls.
@jifij89

@@TheWintergoat yay at least i’m not alone in being an older viewer! it’s not even just kurtis’ audience, it’s a big problem i’ve noticed for years now, going back to the tumblr days! people just act so weird online, and then they think it’s ok to carry that over into real life. i worry as well that due to lockdowns and stuff, kids now are more chronically online than ever. it’s just worrying seeing kids social skills go down the drain cause it’s so normal now to just be on social media all day.

My bf and I were in the balcony at the STL show and it was pretty disappointing to see how many times ppl yelled at you from the front row of the ground level. Can't say im surprised, but this was also my first time seeing a YTuber live so maybe that's the vibe? I feel like ppl still don't view YTubers as being real people or maybe they've just developed such aggressive parasocial relationships with their fave creators that think they HAVE to speak up at their show. Idk but it was ridiculous. i remember thinking how you'd probably discuss it in a video later on. Lol. also we were kind of amazed at the age demographic of the audience - a lot of kids who looked high school or younger and some brought their parents. We felt old AF being 28/29. Still loved the show though, you and the boys killed it! 🤗

If you are a fan who thinks they are important enough to not have common sense or decency then you're doing something right by making them not like you. That's what they say. If you have people talking shit without doing anything wrong you're doing something right. Fans who question someone for being upset about literally anything they want to be a fan of someone who is like Dream and just takes it.

Here's a funny thing about the driving point I'm autistic lol and lose my peripheral vision* when I drive (which I don't dw). So living in America is like this everyday when I'm literally minding my own business: -"I don't drive, it's not safe for me" -"Well, you know the only way to get used to driving is experience :D" -"No, I mean I lose vision, it's dangerous. I'm good at it but I'd rather not die or kill anyone" -" Well you'll get there one day! It's hard but you want your freedom don't you? " -" I'd like to move" Or what I'd like to say "I'd like to have that freedom without being partially blind or being pressured by every person I come in contact with even though I tell them it's a literal disability... but hey, it's my decision to make it harder on myself! :D "
