Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by historian Rafe Heydel-Mankoo who says he is “sick” of majority groups being “condescended and sneered at”.
Rachel Reeves insists Britain will be a safe haven for business under a Labour government as Europe turns towards populism.
Ms Reeves, who could become Britain's first female chancellor of the exchequer after this week's general election, wrote ahead of France's parliamentary election on Sunday, which is expected to see big increases in votes for both the far right and far left.
“I want investors to look at Britain and say it is a safe haven in an increasingly turbulent Europe and the rest of the world. At a time when other countries look to be tilting towards more populist, unstable politics I want Britain to be a secure and stable place where business can invest with confidence.”

'Populism' implies that a politician panders to base prejudices of 'the people'. The unspoken implication is that the politician doesn't stand up for better principles, when it's actually quite conceivable that, on most issues, the 'base prejudices' of the people are, in fact, common sense practical opinions. Right now, 'populism' believes in sensible border controls; it believes in the value of heterosexual family relations; it believes in national sovereignty; it believes in climate realism and rejects net zero nuttery; it believes that there's just as much corruption and criminality in women, homosexuals, jews, muslims and people of colour as there is in white men; and it believes that there's damn all difference between the American elites and the Russian elites. Sounds eminently sensible to a person excluded from 'the popular crowd'.....

It’s Roman influence. The Roman state called itself :- SENATUS POPULUSQUE ROMANUS (SPQR) The Senate (parliament) and the People of Rome. The aristocratic landowners dished out the law to the populus who vastly outnumbered them. By their size, the people were at the same time feared and despised by the superior ruling class.
