For super glue, check out suppliers for wood lathe work. Superglue is used for wood finish on wood turning, bowls, etc. and is sold in larger quantities than the tiny tubes. It is available in several thicknesses, thick, thin very thin, etc. In the USA some prefer a brand called Starbond but chemically super glue is super glue so the brand may not matter. It does have a shelf life, so don't buy it too far ahead.

Starbond and Hot Stuff are the go-to brands, at least here in the US. CA glue (the real name, "super glue" is a brand name) is rated in CPS, which is a measure of viscosity. Low CPS (~5) is like water, medium CPS (~800) is like oil, high CPS (1500+) is like honey, and is only useful for gap filling. I use 5 CPS for most general bonding, and 800CPS for crack repairs in wood vases and such that want to split when drying.

After you got the first triangle cut out I would hold it down outline & cut out like first one , no glue needed. 🤔 Just a different way of approach. Good video.

Awesome video. I make these quite often. As for your comment about platinum being too thin when you order them premade, I 100% agree. One little trick I learned with platinum that I'm still seeing people who don't know is that instead of trying to sand and polished your platinum over and over again. That gummy stuff is excellent for burnishing to get a flawless finish. I'm always watching other jewelers to pick up little tips and tricks. Even though I've been doing this for 35+ years.

I’ve since made 2 of these now. It’s be I set on a ring and it turned out well. I did another this weekend and although not nearly as perfect as the one you made, it’s much improved. I really like this setting as it gives a great sturdy foundation for the stone and when done properly, makes a nice, even setting all around. I’m going to attempt another soon. I appreciate you sharing this.

You could also use acetone to get the superglue off but I actually didn’t even know you could heat it to remove it so I’m definitely going to do that next time I don’t have acetone

Although I’ve gotten better, I still struggle with doing prongs. I see a lot of rings that have a similar style to this. I might give this a try, but I’d still like to master the wire prongs.

Nice work, I would draw the two pieces on to millimeter graft paper then w/a light box trace the drawing onto white paper and glue the white paper to the metal, then pierce. Very precision. P. S. DIY your light box, (tracings box) w/wood, plexiglass and a low wattage bulb.

Outstanding video as always. Congratulations for the wonderful job! One little tip: I prefer to use a nylon pliers (parallel nylon is even better) than a common steel parallel to secure a piece when I'm sawing, it secures the piece much, much more firmily than a normal steel one. Even a normal nylon pliers has a more strong grip than a normal parallel for me. The steel is a bit slippery like you said on the video and the nylon fixes this problem. Thank you and keep up the amazing work!

What size range of stones can you set in a setting like this? I would guess there is a point of no return for both very large and very small diameters...? I am guessing maybe 3mm up to about 8mm? What do think? Or have you made crazy tiny ones, or huge big ones?

I think you could use any size stone but maybe a thicker gauge sheet should be used for large stones
