I'm surprised it hardened. That didn't look hot enough. Next time check with a magnet. If its no longer magnetic its hot enough.

What kind of steel did you start out with? Mild, tool, some kind of high carbon?

+Richard Morley (BrainFizzUK) it is a mild steel. Might not hold an edge as long. If the design works, i may get some better sterl and do it all over again.

Timothy Charles well maybe not, but who cares! Every turning tool needs sharpening anyway! And mild steel costs pennies 👍😀 I have a mind to try this myself, I think the heat treatment will be the most challenging, but still well worth a go! Keeps us updated with how you get on, making handle and using etc! Great job mate!! 👍👍
