I'm making my grandson a denim circle and square finishing it off to be similar to the cathedral window quilt. But this has inspired me to make another now out of scraps that were too small for the circle or left over after cutting circles. Even if I have to stitch some together end to end or even overlap them end to end as I go to get the length I need. My squares would have to be smaller since I would be working with only scraps but even that could be cute. Shoot. Maybe a purse. Love your tutorials Jenny. Hope to meet you in person some day.

Just remember to purchase batting that has a 10 inch spacing on the quilting, another words you can tie 10 inches apart. If you use a batting that is designed for quilting 4 inches apart, then the batting will bunch up after it is washed. Love your stuff.
@craftingmimi73778 жыл бұрын
Jenny, I was just wondering what happened when you washed the quilt? It looks like you sewed each strip in the middle. Did it fray in a good way or become a tangled mess after it was washed and dried?
@janochs72889 жыл бұрын
The idea of using denim from our own stash is great using this lovely process, but why couldn't this quilt be made using various color/prints combos in cotton quilting fabric? Ideas are already dancing in my head (added to all the previous ones...) Love you, Jenny
@MissouriQuiltCo9 жыл бұрын
+Jan Ochs the problem with cotton is that it will most likely fray and roll up over time. But flannel is a great alternative if you don't want to use denim. :)
@amlaboy9 жыл бұрын
Wondering how this would look as a RAG quilt. Would fleece work? Sew as You Go? I know that denim and fleece are often used in rag quilts. Don't care for the zigzag stitch but we're only limited by what our sewing machines are capable of. The end result is very pretty.
@MissouriQuiltCo9 жыл бұрын
+Mary Laboy Flannel and denim are both often used in rag quilts and would both work great for this project. Fleece on the other hand would roll on the edges. I hope this helps! :)

i like how you're thinking outside of the box. all you had to do was put one square on top on another, sew lines, and slash between the lines. there's even a rotary cutter for that.
@tabaiba19589 жыл бұрын
I do'nt think that the result was the same. It's not the same tear strips than cut them.
@MissouriQuiltCo9 жыл бұрын
+BenjJr Graham you could definitely try it that way! It would be like a Chenille quilt if you cut it with the rotary cutter after they were sewn on top of each other. Either way, it would look great!
@queenopearls9 жыл бұрын
+BenjJr Graham - That is what I was thinking. Plus the raveling wouldn't go beyond the seam lines. :)

two questions... 1. Do you sew down the middle of the torn strip? Is that why the decorative stitches would work well? 2. How does it wash up in the laundry? does it fray like a rag quilt? Thanks, loved the tutorial!!
@AmyBarickman8 жыл бұрын
+Shannan Sabby Yes, you just sew down the middle of the strip. The decorative stitches are both pretty and add extra strength. Our denim washes really nicely, it will fray a little, but not as much as a rag quilt.

@dawnwiser84549 жыл бұрын

@eup5849 жыл бұрын
They must be cut 10 inches. That screen that shows the materials needed says the quilt is 47x57. Ten inch squares finished at 9.5 would give you those dimensions.
@dianncall99719 жыл бұрын
Dori S. I was wondering the same thing. I re-watched the video and paused it to count the squares on Jenny's cutting mat. I came up with 10" for the square. You might try that and see what you come up with!

When you sew the strips on is there only 1 stitching line down the middle of the strip? Or, are you securing both sides of the strip?
@shazb.20439 жыл бұрын
+Danielle Graziani Stone Danielle, I noticed no one replied to your question. From the video of the smaller 4 square that they finished off with you could see the thread was down the center of each strip only. They used a zigzag stitch in purple to match the solid square. You probably caught that if you re-watched the video after asking the question. Hope that answered that for you just in case you didn't re-watch the video.
@daniellegrazianistone46329 жыл бұрын
Thank you! My worry would be when washed those strips would curl up or go wonky.
@roslynatwood65319 жыл бұрын
+Danielle Graziani Stone I think I would straight line quilt it, adding another line of stitching either side of the original stitching otherwise I am afraid it will look really messy after laundering. And I hate this kind of finish so I would bind it. Roslyn
