Nice one Steve. The things you do on your lathe is like the gift that keeps giving. As always I cannot wait to see what you do next.

Yet again, simply fabulous. I will never look at a plumbing fittings without thinking what could I make from that? 🤔 Car boot sales across the land are going to be scoured for plumbing fittings. 👏👏👍😀

Steve, I couldn't help but chuckle when you displayed the finished part. I don't know what garden hose collars look like on your side of the pond but here in North America that part looks exactly like ..... Wakodahatchee Chris

An interesting follow-up Steve. I bought one of those brass fittings today. Will have a go at making a mandrel Cheers Nobby

Hi, Thanks. I hope to show the process of making the actual container part soon. It's worth looking out for brass plumbing parts at car boot sales, and if you have a for sale area at your local recycle centres as well. Regards Steve

@@SteveJordan Could you not just put one end of that brass fitting into the chuck rather than use a piece of bar? If you had less material sticking out of the chuck, less flex so no need for the live center maybe??
@SteveJordan Жыл бұрын
No, It could come out of the chuck when machining. Plus a lot of wasted time in trying to get it concentric. If you make up the fixtures, then you have a safe, easy method that can be used anytime, quickly. Also you need the length of the fixtures for certain work like knurling.
@steveclark.. Жыл бұрын
@@SteveJordan Why would it come out? Because it's hollow/flexing you mean? I've learnt that you have to be a bit more careful with tubes I grant you, it looks like there would be enough length to sit inside the jaws, to provide a fair grip. You aren't knurling past the middle of that connection tube where the nut section is are you? The jaws of the chuck would just be gripping the threaded section on the other side of the nut. Well that's how I would tackle this job especially for a one off, making the other part and waiting for the loctite to dry would be the wasted time to me.😃

I will admit to being a bit slow at times, where did the end (top) of the cap come from?
@SteveJordan Жыл бұрын
I will show the full process of making the top and the actual container part in an upcoming video.

I machine the end cap and solder it. I will show this process soon.

Those brass fittings can be quite expensive; at least here in the States. Black pipe fittings are much cheaper, but don't have a hex in the middle which may not even be a problem.
@SteveJordan Жыл бұрын
In the UK, you can buy them at low cost from recycling centres and car boot sales. Regards Steve
