Hello, first of all thank you so much for the tutorial. But I'm using illustrator CS4 and I can't seem to find Shape Builder tool. Is there anything I can do for the alternative?

Ah. The Shape Builder Tool was introduced with CS5. Unfortunately you'd have to create a rather complex series of pathfinders, or draw the paths then outline them as an alternative. I know that sounds like it's impossible, but it isn't-it will just require a lot of forethought and patience. :)
