Hey yall! Use Blender 2.93 for this tutorial! I tried making the fixes below in the comments work, but it wasn't quite --- and it was such a distraction to just making the ART! who cares, download multiple versions, get the work done yall. You dont need the latest paint to make the painting. Learned so much from this tutorial, this was my first crack at geo nodes. thank you c bailey!

Fix for Blender 3.1 at 12:30 \\\\ Take an "Align Euler to Vector" between the "Distribute Points on Face" (Rotation) and "Instance on Points" (Rotation).
@peterjcurtiss65132 жыл бұрын
If anyone else is having trouble rotating the bark instances to align with the tree normals in 3.0 I found a way to make it work: Add node "transfer attribute" Attach "group input" to 'target' Create "normal" node and attach to 'attribute' Create "align euler to vector" and attach 'attribute' output from "transfer attribute" to 'vector' Attach 'rotation' from euler alignment to 'rotation' on "instance on points" Set "transfer attribute" settings to [vector], [nearest], and [point]

Haven't found any comment explaining how to pull the random barks from their collection in 3.1 so here's how I solved minute ~12 Your Instance on Points node (in this video it's called Point Instance) needs Pick Instance enabled and 3 nodes connected to it: -Collection Info with Separate Children and Reset Children checkboxes enabled, connected to Instance -Random Value from 0 to the number of barks you have in your collection. Instance on Points' Instance Index socket apparently has a modulo built in so you can just crank that number to whatever when you plug it in and it still randomizes. The randomization changes even when you're just changing decimals though, so don't ask me how exactly it works. -Align Euler to Vector that takes the the Rotation output from your Distribute Points on Faces node (in this video it's Point Distribute) into its own Rotation input and passes it along to Instance on Points' Rotation
@Nomo_Popo2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This did it (and just for one little clarification, the Random Value goes into the Instance Index of the Instance on Points node)

Great video... fast forward 11 months later and v3.2.2 and I see some changes that impact using 'older' tutorials... at least for those of us who are not much more than newbies. How does one get past these kind of things? In particular nodes that change and are no longer the same, gone or modified in a significant way. This is the case for the point nodes in the tutorial. For example under 3.2.2 the point node options are: DISTRIBUTE POINTS ON FACES POINTS TO VERTICES POINTS TO VOLUMES SET POINT RADIUS Which do not match up to the nodes used in the tutorial.

This was a great tutorial thank you. Thanks for also briefly explaining what some of these nodes do and why you use them. Some guys just say put this there and this here but don't actually explain WHY we do it. You have sub my man. Keep the content coming. I can't seem to find the Point Instance node. This is written as of Blender 3.1. Anyone know of something similiar? All I find is the Instance on and to Points nodes. But I can't select the object on either of the nodes. Help will be appreciated thanks. I figured it out thanks. You use the Instance on Points node as you would the point instance. Also use an object info node and plug that into the instance slot of the Instance on Points node. I hope this helps anyone else.

@amandaw14622 жыл бұрын
You can use 'Instance on Points' with 'Object info' instead of 'Point Instance'. You add 'Instance on Points' in the same spot as 'Point instance' and then plug 'Object info' into the Instance of 'Instance on Points'. Then you only have to select your bark in 'Object Info' and it should work. At least for me it did :)

For example, I see instance to points OR instance on points but neither have object picker and their nodes have different sockets. Does anybody know how to resolve this?

@@austinpayne7192 I have (actually my brother had) :) You need to use object info node, and you need to have your shrooms set in a collection that you put into object info node.
