The Practical Engineer

Күн бұрын

I still remember that when I was a small kid I saw one of these tornado machines in a science museum. The machine looked super mysterious and was fun to play with. Now, today is the day that I finally got to make one of these tornado machines myself. Turns out, they are way less mysterious than you’d think..

I like that you included mistakes in this one. Most build videos on KZbin are so polished, it's sometimes discouraging to get back to the shop and trip over myself and make my own mistakes. Nice to see that the pros do it too.

Oh yeah, we all make mistakes. Some just learned to hide them better. I also believe that it's crucial to leave the mistakes in.

When you make two boxes the same size (or a box and lid) make them as one piece then cut them apart using a table saw. Takes less time and they come out exactly the same.
@Thepracticalengineer
@Thepracticalengineer 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! that is a great trick indeed! I do not own a table saw but I think this could have been done with the tracksaw as well.

Instead of adding 2 powersupplies at different voltages like you have now, you could also have opted to go with only the 24V one for the higher voltage components and add a stepdown converter to have 12V output from that same 24V supply :)
@Thepracticalengineer
@Thepracticalengineer 4 жыл бұрын
That would have been a nicer option indeed. I used this because I had these lying around

Hey man, nice project! A question tho, have you tried to put you camera a little higher so you don't damage your back while shooting the videos?
@Thepracticalengineer
@Thepracticalengineer 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm looking into that but it's often low for the work table, then if I want to show something quickly it is still low.. It would take away from the spontaneity.

Pssst .. look for the Ryobi Nail Gun (accu-powered). Not a common brand in NL, but there are some stores selling them. AFAIK a good product, and no compressor needed.

Would you be able to do another one of these? Only the one I have in mind is different. And requires a different set of components. It would help prove a theory of mine. Using a long clear plastic tube/column three sections or levels created using some circular cutouts to section off levels. |___°___| level 1 |............| level 2 |.....^.....| level 2
