Today I make a Viking drinking horn mug! Grab a horn and follow along!
I love the look of a Viking drinking horn. I only recently saw the mug version of a drinking horn with a handle and NEEDED to make my own. See how I did it and maybe give it a shot yourself!

Great video! FYI Instead of using a wood plug, cover the end with plastic wrap and cover with masking tape. Then pour 1.5-2 oz of food grade epoxy into the base while it is sitting flat on a table. let it set, pull off the plastic wrap and your done! You can also coat the inside of the horn with the epoxy if you want to use it for hot liquids. Beeswax doesn't taste good with coffee!

While I was in Belize in '92, I saw an old man sitting on the ground next to a fire. The fire was about 2 feet from the highway into Belize City just outside of Ladyville. A couple days later he was there again and and there were several people around him. I finally stopped to see what he was doing. He had a big pile of horns and was making all sorts of crafts. He made dolphins, sharks, birds, and boats. He would put his hand in the horn and put the horn in the fire; he said once his hand got hot, he horn was hot enough to bend. His palms were like elephant skin. He would bend and twist the horns into the most amazing crafts.

I'd love to make one of these, but if I acquired another horn mug my wife would strangle me to death. Then she'd give me cpr so that she could strangle me to death once again. Groenfell meadery (probably spelled incorrectly) has some amazing meads. I normally get Dansk Mjød because it's more accessible to me. Their Viking Blod is amazing and Odin's Skull is great for the holidays because it's very festive tasting. Sour apple juice, hops, and cinnamon.

So I bought a horn mug at the PA Ren Faire last year. It supposedly has some food safe resin inside. It started leaking at the bottom a couple weeks back and the sellers could only tell me food grade resin was used. I sealed my daughters copper mug (which might be some small planter actually she got at a thrift store) with our own beeswax (I'm a hobbyist beekeeper) Do you know much about sealing these mugs with food safe resins? I figure if I melt beeswax inside it'll never take the resin after but the seller can't tell me what resin was used. Thoughts?
