Hi, in this video I wanted to show how I made a Truss Frame for my overhead systems, power, compressed air, vacuum, storage etc. At the time of posting I had yet to put in cross braces and paint the steel work. Anyhow, If you watched the who clip, thank you so much, and as always be good and keep making!

Thanks Oscar, the truss has worked to be quite useful in the shop.

the only thing cooler than you accent is your accent at 2X speed ;-) oh, and your work is top shelf, too, as always.

+tim sway Awe shucks Tim, thanks. I actually try to talk slower in videos or not at all as people might find it hard to understand me, but with this video I thought "bugger it", I'm going full chipmunk. And Be good!

i liked it. ha ha! i, of course, can comment on people's accents, because the one state in america i am from is, coincidentally, he only place on earth where no one has an accent. ;-)

Great stuff. I'm thinking about something similar for lighting in my workshop as sometimes my videos come out to dark and I only notice when I edit which is way to late haha
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious

Yep it's quite useful in lots of ways. You can attach your camera, power, air, vacuum etc, and you can do chin ups (up) on it (when no one is looking. Works for me. Do it and post your work on You Tube ;)
@DiesInEveryFilm

Scott Turner out know what I didn't even think that will go perfect for my camera as when I'm working my camera can wobble a bit and that's more junk footage. Haha my workshop ain't high enough for chin-ups I don't think. Yeh man if I do make it I'll film it and give you props for the idea 👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you for the video. How do you think now 3:24 was it possible (and much easier) to make that z-construction made by _bended_ monolitic wire than cutted and welded? Thanks again
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious

Thank you! Yes a bend mechanism would be 100% better no doubt.

@@ScottTurnerformeindustrious Thank you for the feedback. The main engшneering task is HOWTO bend long z-members (or how to call them)..

I understand this was over a year ago...but hopefully you'll see this missive. I'm curious how you use this gantry/truss...for power, lighting, air, vacuum ...etc.? Is there roller slides that you fashion or? Maybe just loop it where you need it? I like this idea!

Hi. presently I run over head power, light and I use it to have my dust extraction pipe. I do hook things to it also. Original concept was to also use a roller/ gantry rail but I really don't think that is necessary in my shop at the moment. Thank you!

Great concept Scott. I have a 6x9x5m shed and always wanted to build a swing gantry in one corner of the shed. Recently stumbled across your channel and you are an inspiration.

Hey Scott, great video. I definitely picked up some fabrication techniques from this. One question: do the tubes with the plates on the end that you hold up to the camera at 7:07 have a name? Those look prefabricated but I have no idea what to call them so I can't find any more info. Those would be great on my next project if I can find the right dimensions.

Josh Olivier hey Josh, I think you are referring to the bicycle tubes that I used to raise the steel work. I used two. They work fine for light lifting anything heavier I would use a chain or lifting slings. Thanks Josh!
@josholivier3996
@josholivier3996 6 жыл бұрын
Wow man, thanks for the quick reply! I'm actually talking about the steel rods with plates on the ends that you used to bolt and brace the assembly to the overhead roof truss after you had suspended it on the bicycle tubes. Did you fabricate those rods yourself or do they have a name?
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious 6 жыл бұрын
Oh ok, those I made from steel rod and plate to make the end attachments. All fabricated.

I think if you went and made dents every 9" on 1" emt and made them bend at 45 and made you w sections it would have more twist strength
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious 6 жыл бұрын
Yes I would like to make a jig that makes the truss section in one piece, one press, but it's really unlikely. A simple bender would work I think like you suggest and it would be stronger especially when made in a triangle configuration.

What is the red "paint" over some of the joints? Presumably a rust inhibitor? Do you apply that only over welded areas, or any area where you grinded down mill scale?
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious
@ScottTurnerformeindustrious 7 жыл бұрын
Hi David, That's Red Oxide Primer I use on the bare steel. I little while after this video I cleaned up the whole truss, primed and painted it. Now it's covered in dust ;)

Great video. Might save a butt load of time on the band saw though, bundle your rods together and weld the ends so when cutting your cutting 4 to 6 at a time instead of one at a time... just saying.
