DIY wooden ring using exotic hard woods with a bentwood cherry core. This ring can be worn daily. The ring I wear while making this video has been worn daily for months. I don't take it off even when swimming and showering. They are beautiful and durable due to the technique of using a bentwood core, the materials used and the Superglue finish.

Definitely enjoyed watching your methods, techniques, and inspiring craftsmanship on your DIY video. I'm dusting off my drill press the first chance I get! Mahalo for the motivation!

Very cool! It never occurred to me that my drill press could be used as a mini lathe. Thanks for blowing my mind!

Nice work. I don't own any hand plans yet. What would be a good plane to buy for that?
@Selandry1
@Selandry1 8 жыл бұрын
Get the Stanley low angle block plane or the #62 low angle jack plane. If you can afford it get the sweetheart Stanley. Well worth the extra cash. They are future classics.

What's the height of your rings typically? Perhaps "width" is the right word here. I'm referring to the wide-ness that the ring has when worn. - How much of the finger is covered . . .

What finish do you use for wood rings. The best advise I got from this guy at a store for a spray can. What is the stuff you are using to finish and seal it?
@dahnke1325
@dahnke1325 6 жыл бұрын
Nehemiah Sanguinetti probably CA glue
@MrOwl1985
@MrOwl1985 4 жыл бұрын
Superglue (I.e CA glue) is the best for wood rings. It creates a finish that's as clear as glass, is waterproof, as well as strengthening the whole ring as it absorbs into the wood like a sponge and makes the entire structure solid. It also feels very good on your finger. I'm wearing a ring I made with a superglue finish right now.

I've been using your technique for a while, but I spent more time calibrating the machines than doing the ring. Is a whole process.

what router bit is that you use to off lathe off the extra wood on the top?
@Selandry1
@Selandry1 8 жыл бұрын
It's called a T slot bit. The other bit is a 1/4" spiral flute bit.

What was the small pieces that you cut with the scissors and what was the measurements when you cut the other wood
@mattk6101
@mattk6101 7 жыл бұрын
Larry Kelley the small pieces were dividing the sections of different species. So after he cut the circle you would see that thin, light colored wood separating the individual sections. I dont know what size the pieces were. Maybe 1/4in, maybe 3/8in

Selandry1 I’ve been using my drill press to make rings as well, and the router modification has def caught my eye! So what’s the benefit of using the spiral up bit vs others?
@Selandry1
@Selandry1 4 жыл бұрын
Terry I tried many different bits and the spiral up bit has the least tear out. Works better than down cut and def better than a straight flute but.

Thanks Mike. It takes about 1 hour of labor spread over the coarse of 3 days to make. Have to let the epoxy sit overnight to harden. That's why it takes 3 days.
