You can boil a haakaa it's 100% silicone. Also, if it doesn't have a suction, keep a mug near by, and stick the haakaa in the mug, so it doesn't fall over.

For sore nipples express a little milk and rub in. Allow to air dry before you cover up. Do this every time you feed when your baby is tiny. If you use pads for leakage change them often to keep your nipples dry. A moist environment can cause all kinds of problems, including sore, bleeding nipples.

I introduced bottles right away, with no problems. I just replaced 1 feeding a day with a bottle. Replacing 1 out of 10 feedings with a bottle will not affect your supply if you pump in place of nursing. I would pump first thing in the morning and save that milk until noon and she would get a bottle from her dad. It would give me a break from 10:30-3 without having to nurse. I would use this time to go grocery shopping, take a shower, get a mental break

I used silverettes constantly starting in the hospital and never had issues with cracked or painful nipples. My baby did have a great latch right away which helped too. The only cons to the silverette are depending on your bra they can draw attention to your nipples when you have a shirt on. Also when my milk came in I leaked a lot and i think it's because the silverettes take pressure off your nipples so the milk would just pool in them then leak out. Now I'm a month in and i just use them if I feel a little irritation.

Haakaa hack... I stand it up in an empty coffee mug so it doesn’t spill. Not my idea, just something I saw in a breastfeeding group! Also, the shells are super helpful for helping reduce friction to damaged, painful, inverted nipples... hopefully that wasn’t an issue for you. But for those of us on that train, yeah, life savers really. But yeah, babe would get plenty of milk baths when I would lean forward 😂
@mmoreau82844 жыл бұрын
Great video, I'm going to pass it on to my daughter in law who is expecting in April.....but I do have one comment, the plastic breast shields, you said you'd never recommend them...I have inverted nipples and was told I'd never be able to nurse my babies, I used these the last 3 months of each pregnancy (4) and for the first 3 months of nursing, and nursed 3 of the 4, the 4th would never latch so I pumped for 6 months for him. So for regular nipples maybe not necessary but for some of us a lifeline :) oh and many times I bent over and soaked my shirt through lol.

your videos are so helpful especially the cloth diaper one! I wanted to let you know that nipple shields are not meant to give your nipples a break. 🤣 I laughed so hard!! they are for babies that can't not latch because you have flat or inverted nipples (not pointy "Bing"). when the baby sucks it forces your nipple to elongate into the little thing. I had to use them for about 4 months and it basically reshaped my nipple and saved my life. we all stress about breast feeding.

I gave my babies a bottle starting at two weeks old. A lot of people don’t recommend that but I didn’t have an issue. My sister got married a month after my middle child was born so I needed dad and grandma to be able to give her a bottle while I was busy with wedding stuff. she was breastfed for a year so yeah we didn’t have an issue going back and forth between boob and bottle.
@dinas1154 жыл бұрын
Regarding babies and bottles. I nursed 6 kids (no bottles*) until they drank from cups. Think about it from the baby's point of view: why would they want a bottle if they could have fresh from the source. Best way to get it to work: make dad give the bottle. Great bonding and baby doesn't expect mom. *partially I was around, didn't think anyone could take care of my baby as well as I could, partially it was painful to skip a feeding, I didn't like the pump - in hindsight, I should have had an established weekly hour or a few to get away and do something either for myself or as a couple Regarding nursing pads-different people drip in different quantities. My sister used to soak her shirt per feeding with her excess, other people I know used the rewashable ones all day and they did their job. I used the disposable curity nursing pads because they hold the most and most of the times it was enough per feeding. I do love that you catch it to save for later! Regarding what's better for baby vs what's better for mom: don't ignore either, find a balance in the middle that works for both. More education makes happier well balanced decisions in so many areas of life. Regarding staying in/staying home: for everyone's health, especially baby, make sure to go outside. I over-stayed home and I wish I hadn't. Let baby lie on her stomach outside and rip out grass. Thank you so much for your energy, I enjoyed your willingness to share.

I HATED my boppy. I just got the normal c shaped pillow one without a strap that you can use for multiple stages (tummy time, sitting up) because I thought it would be helpful. The thing is they slope INWARDS towards your body. So I'm a mess, trying to latch my week old baby, crying, and I can't get her level to my boobs because she keeps falling into the Boppy canyon. I had a few choice words for that Boppy and got a My Breast Friend instead. The one Shayla has looks more level and had a strap. I'd go for that one or a My Breast Friend.

If you don't want your baby to wean before time (WHO (and many different pediatrician organizations) says that the minimum is 6 months, but you should continue till at least 2 years) you should NOT use bottles, nipple shield, pacifiers, nipple cover, etc, because it causes confusion for the baby and they can refuse to be breastfed or hurt you a lot. If your nipples are hurting, there is something that needs to be adjusted in the feeding. If you can afford a lactation consultant, do it. If not, there's a lot of information online.
