probably not getting it at all because the MTU will pick up the loot (only if the mission has sufficient loot), i'll drop a few mtu's and then collect them in order i placed them. Doing a couple of missions, then haul the filled mtu's back once and again inbetween. The loot is sometimes worth it, the salvage most of the time is not, it takes too long even in a noctis. The bounty, mission rewards and buying the right stuff with the LP guarantees i make more money not salvaging. there is but one caveat: i'm searching for a new corp right now and if it so happens they're a bit sloppy and leave alot of good salvage, i'm tempted to team up and clean the wrecks and test if it can become worth investing time in. another situation is when i get isolated from the large trade hubs by choice and the local industry needs the salvaged stuff for their industry and subsequently my reshipping.

I got my Noctis so many years ago I cant recall. What I do recall was how much I loved and still do love salvaging even though I rarely get to these days.

If you are a nullsec pilot you can also use those same fits to link up with people who rat havens in larger ships who do not want the wrecks and make big cash (for a new guy) per hour salvaging them and grabbing the loot if they do not care about it. I financed my first capital ships and injectors for my alfirst alt doing this. Teamwork makes the dream work.

Good stuff. I've only recently begun salvaging again, and I can tell you it's much faster if you switch to salvager 2s and balance your high slots 4/salvagers 4/tractors. Lock 4 and put your tractors on them. When they get in range put the salvagers on them and turn off the tractors. Lock up the next 4 and start the tractors. By that time, the salvagers are done and you can scoop the containers. Cycle begins again. The only time I use an MTU is when I'm dual boxing and nobody else is around.. at which point I'm just parked next to the MTU with salvage drones out, keeping an eye on local for gankers. In low sec, I do the MTU thing with a Sunesis, 3 salvagers and T2 salvage drones. Salvaging and reprocessing has completely replaced the little bit of mining I used to have to do in support of my T2 production, and since I'm going to do the missions anyway...

I've had a Noctis for a few years now. Back in the day (2010) before Noctis existed we used to have all sorts of weird fits, like a Hurricane with tractors, salvagers and a MWD. The thing with missioning in known ganker systems is that they scan for MTUs using core probes. This way you can't see if they're looking to gank you or not. If you don't use a MTU, they have to scan you down using combat probes, and if you see those in a system in highsec missioning areas, it usually means they're out to gank, so you can warp out. Because of this, when I do run missions, I don't use a MTU. Instead, when I salvage, I use a Noctis with 5 x tractor IIs, 3 x Salvager IIs and 5 x Salvager Drone IIs, along with a cap battery, a MWD, and 2 x Inertial Stabilizer IIs. It takes longer, but I truly hate having to play hide and seek with baiters and gankers.

Got the noctis, fitted with salvager II and tractor beams II. Wow it is fast. Refit with 4 salvagers/ 4 tractor beams. I wasn't even using the 5th and 6th... Love the fit, the ship, great video. Thanks! I've been running level 3 security, working my way up to L4. Sweet deal. I believe I'm getting better salvage as well: the dunk drones get a lot of metal scraps, lol.

For now I'm carrying an MTU, Mobile Depot, and a few Salvagers with me. I drop the MTU and depot before starting combat, then when everything's done I refit to salvagers, salvage everything that's sitting at the MTU, then refit back to weapons and scoop the MTU/Depot and move on. Not very cargo efficient, but has felt like less of a pain to me than docking to swap ships.

My Catalyst salvager would actually go 7 salvagers + 1 auto targeter (to increase target locks). Most wrecks gets gathered by mobile tractor unit after all. Then maybe a MWD for speed if needed and a battery to increase Capacitor in the mids and use the lows and maybe some rigs to boost cargo capacity. And personally, I prefer the Catalyst over the Noctis, as it is more maneuverable and faster to warp around.

Maybe a bit late (11 month lol) but, I think for starters is better to use exploration frigates for salvaging. They have huge cargo, cheap and have bonus like Noctis, for reducing duration of salvager.

I am in sov space so i run a cormorant loaded with Slav1s in the high, a cloak for just in case. All cargo expander lows. Salvage rigs. Mids only matter if you need cap, but with decent skills I haven't drained it yet. Don't skimp on the MTU, the 'magpie' has longer range than the others

A career salvager simply cannot do his work without a Noctis, you really don't need all the T2 stuff on it to be very effective. The range and speed of the tractor beam is insane. Loaded with salvage drones doing their work near your ship, you'll be taxed to keep up.... Lock, tractor, empty cargo if any, salvage X 4... Rinse and repeat while juggling. Pro tip: It's also one of the best ship to "train" logis without getting shot at, the key sequence is very much the same, including drones. Just imagine wrecks are friendly ships needing repair. //Tractor beams = reppers // Salvagers = cap transfer // Salvage drones = Repair drones.

If only gankers would leave our MTUs alone but sadly they have a lot of good reason why they love/need to destroy those. Bought magpie but who am I kidding, it got detected pretty easily, but I placed it where heavy hitting enemy ships will spawn, during a mission, and boy oh boy how fun it is to watch the ganker getting ganked by enemies, but he managed to shoot down my magpie before he warped out, so I 'laughed sadly'.

If you salvage wrecks left by other players, you will be flagged as Suspect and people can shoot you without consequence. Be careful ;)
