While I would agree there are many less talented performers since autotune I think there is still some fantastic music always being created. I think the bigger issue for us older folks that remember all the great songs of the 60s, 70s, and 80s simply have a harder time finding something new that stands out in that pack.

You got it right when you said people are recommending the best. Most of the songs you review got a LOT of radio play, so of course they would be highly rated. You don't have to worry about giving out a lot of A's A+'s or even S's. Give the songs what they deserve, and don't be concerned about the ratios.

From the summer of 1970, and as always, written, arranged & sung by David Gates, the vocal leader of the group. This song was on AM Top 40 radio in Denver, 950 KIMN, right around the time Richard & Karen Carpenter were taking the music world by storm, with " Close To You ". Also, James Taylor, with " Fire & Rain" , earlier that year. --------MJL, 76 y/o

There's a reason that most of the songs you listen to have made it into the top 10 up to and including #1 on the charts in the past. It's because they have a catchy hook or really great instrumentation or smooth, flawless vocals, etc. These songs have become beloved over the decades and have lasted for decades because they are so good. And that's why you give so many A and A+ scores (kind of what you said). I'm sure Bread has put out songs during their time that didn't quite make it up there to the top and that's okay. Most artists and bands have experienced this (just listen to classic American Top 40 shows and you'll see what I mean).

I bought this song in the summer of 1970. Check out it's B-side "Why do you keep me waiting" - more of a rocker, - snappy, poppy, somewhat like John Lennon and Elton John's "Whatever gets you through the night." But the most underrated Bread song is "Been too long on the road." This is a song you could make a TV movie of the week out of. Back in the day this is the kind of song you'd hear on Friday night at 7 p.m. on the radio and then call the record shop to see how late it's open because you just HAD to buy it. It's also not a gentle ballad in the style of most of their songs, so the style will surprise you.

Easily one of my favorite songs as a 15 year old checking out the girls. Definitely an an A, give it another listen the bass comes in hard in the beginning.😂

So we need to suggest more C, D and F songs? We can make that happen.

Oh, you know if we suggested songs that we consider to be rated F, they would probably love it for being unique or quirky or surprising. Maybe they should do a poll for F-rated songs.

@@TallyDrake I could get behind a once a month "dead dog song" for the giggles. There were plenty of junk songs from the 60s through 90s. The Archies anyone? Or Tiny Tim??

I was thinking tbe same thing - I wonder what they would make of St Winifred's School Choir singing Grandma, we love you or even Jimmy Osmond singing Long Haired Lover from Liverpool?

My favorite mellow band. There is a song where they rock out though, mother freedom. Check it out

In the genre of "Easy Listening", Bread and this song are the poster child. Comparing it to other songs in other genres is foolish. For what they were trying to accomplish, this should be A+ to S. If this is not to your taste, it doesn't matter how well they did.

Talk about a band and a man that doesn't get half the credit they deserve. Soundtrack of the 70s.

Remember, late 60's early 70's, my generation had an excess of good, often different and experimental music to chose from, WE WERE SPOILED with the excess. It was actually difficult to keep up, both time wise and monetarily with what was available, most of it was so good, so don't be too hard on yourselves, so much goodness. Hell, Wings Of Pegasus just did a vid on the Andrews Sisters 1941 hit Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Lots of good stuff back there. And that's the stuff that sticks around.
