@rhettshull While this is amazing, I’m wondering if you have self-criticism when you play the video back. I find that I’m really hard on my own performances and I’m wondering if you’d do a video about how you learn from your performances without beating yourself up.

@@18JR78 I dig them. But I'm not talking about live performances. I'm talking about recording album worthy material with no or very little fix it's.

My band has done this. Most of our jam songs sound terrible or just ok, but some are darn good. Usually happens after we forget we are being recorded.

Love your playing Rhett, perhaps you don't "shred" like some other players but you are very melodic, your solos tell a story and are memorable. And you have plenty of speed to go along with that. Honestly your one of my favorite guitar players today ❤

Sessions like this must make Rhett Shull glad he didn't pack in guitar, like he felt like doing a few years back. Zach and his drummer are sounding really good with Philip Conrad's bass underpinning them and that halo of Jazzmaster from Rhett (chorus or univibe maybe?). Having that second guitar really let Zach be free to run in his solos. It's got a great groove with the live bass, that JMJ Mustang sounds awesome too, doesn't get in the way of the guitars but it's really big and warm sounding. Sick organ solo too, love the way he held back and then went all in, with the rotary organ before Rhett's searing solo (his best yet, in this series - had a touch of J Mascis vibes). Zach's longstanding drummer is an absolute beast too, been following them with interest.

MAaaan @Rhett Shull. I saw Zach live out here in France this summer at a local blues festival just after you put out the previous cut with him. He was f**kin INSANE good. Just him and Jake, but duuuuude... the TOANZzzz !! And in fairness Jake is one of the best young drummers I've heard in a while. The boys absolutely slay, and Zach's album has been on repeat all summer. Also got to chat with him after the show. Lovely, humble young dude to boot.

Had fun listening to this! Thanks for the intro to Zach! Am not a massive American Idol watcher so wasn't familiar with him. glad I am now. Love the relatively small guitar world and enjoyed seeing his connections with Baxter at casino, Larkin Poe and seeing he worked with Tyler on the new record. It's always so exciting to see younger people's find a connection to the Blues and chase it! Finding their own sound somewhere in the process. I hesitate in this day and age to make the obvious connection to Lenny but his voice and style really reminds me of him in the very best possible way! Amazing Live to tape performance! Only semi criticism is that Rhett's solo's needed a little more boost for my 60 yr old tired ears!
