I'm happily married to one wife, but I can sympathize with the polygyny view. It's certainly not sinful; a plain reading of scripture will teach you that. However, I would caution anyone who wants to adopt this practice to consider more than just a simplistic "sinful" versus "not sinful" approach. Developing a comprehensive understanding requires considering additional guiding principles. For instance, 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 provides two principles: Is this practice beneficial and constructive, and are we seeking the good of others rather than our own? It's precisely because of these parameters, which cannot be ignored, that I believe polygyny is not a viable option for most men. 1.If you are already married and your current wife cannot accept this practice, you should not shipwreck her faith if you can't convince her. 2.The Western pool of potential women is almost entirely not viable. In our culture, women are often fed a Disney-like view of marriage, where they require a lot of attention. However, biblical marriages were more mundane and focused on fulfilling our roles. 3. Evangelistic and Gospel goals for Christians are important. If you aspire to become a theologian, teacher, or preacher, holding and teaching the polygynous view may hinder your progress. It's unfair, but it's a reality you must consider. You have to determine if your heavenly goal is worth letting go of your personal desires. James 3 admonishes us that even something that is "good" and not sinful should not be pursued by all of us. How much more should we exercise caution with something that is permissible, like polygyny. These are just a few considerations. If you can overcome these challenges, then by all means, have at it!

@@RobBKowalski Thanks brother, I discovered that polygyny was permissible about 4 years ago while interning to be a pastor in my private studies and I debated friends and family on the issue, and to this day I will hold to my guns that it's permissible. But that being said, in recent years I've incorporated other principles that are easily overlooked in the New Testament that give us guiding principles like 1 Corinthians 7 talks about the woes a married man will face along w/ having his attention divided, which depending on your financial situation could be less for some than others, but it's still something that needs to be considered among many other things. But yeah thanks brother, I appreciate your content, I just always want people to get the pros and cons of everything, and there are cons to polygyny, although they are not a matter or sin, they are to do with what you want to accomplish here on earth, and I understand for most polygyny advocates it's to raise up godly offspring which is a noble cause.

@@SpiritAligned Deuteronomy 17:17 can actually be used as permitting polygyny rather than prohibiting it. Firstly, within its immediate context, the verse targets regulations specifically aimed at kings. The injunction against accumulating wives, gold, or horses was intended to prevent kings from excessively relying on worldly possessions instead of trusting in God's sovereignty. It's important to note that this directive applies specifically to the governance of the kingdom and doesn't extend to ordinary individuals, so one could argue it was logically allowed for everyone else since the verse only restricted the king. However, historical interpretations have recognized that while polygyny was permissible even for kings, excessive accumulation was discouraged. For instance, King David had multiple wives (8), which was accepted, but Solomon's seven hundred wives were considered excessive. Examining historical accounts, such as David's reign, provides further support for the permissibility of polygyny. Solomon's numerous wives, acquired through political alliances, were not condemned solely for their number but for their influence in leading him away from exclusive devotion to the Lord. But an argument could be made that 700 wives and 300 concubines is excessive and that is fair, but again it's not against multiple wives but an excessive amount, which to be fair would be impossible for King Solomon to satisfy their needs as required by law. When considering the broader biblical narrative, you will find numerous instances where polygyny was practiced without explicit condemnation. Figures like Abraham, Jacob, and David all had multiple wives without facing divine retribution solely for the act of polygyny itself. Taking a comprehensive view, it's plausible to interpret Deuteronomy 17:17 as regulating the conduct of kings rather than imposing a universal prohibition on polygyny, but an even close look you will see that it's really to do with the overly excessive amounts and the wives being foreign, leading Solomon and other kings to worship other Gods. The verse underscores the importance of kings maintaining a focus on spiritual fidelity and not allowing worldly possessions or alliances made through marriage to detract from their allegiance to God. To remain faithful to the Bible and, more importantly, to God, interpreting these biblical passages demands careful consideration of historical context, textual analysis, and the broader themes of scripture in my honest opinion. God Bless.

"But he shall not multiply horses for himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt to multiply horses, for the LORD has said to you, 'You shall not return that way again. ' Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself." Same word (multiply) used here for horses and gold. I guess you are condemning any man who has more than one horse too right? Be consistent. Also this verse is for "Kings" but you failed to mention that.

@@SpiritAligned 1 Kings 11:4 “For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.” King James Version (KJV) According to God, David's 18 wives did not violate the commandment against *kings* multiplying wives, while Solomon's 700+300 wives did violate that commandment.
