Love to see a top 5 mistakes vid. Haven't been wood working too long, but probably my biggest mistake that takes the joy out of woodworking and a project is expecting and wanting a project to be perfect and being annoyed when it was not. I still strive for perfection but now know most people won't even notice my mistakes and who cares cause mistakes are just "character"! Also love you intertwining your faith in our Lord Jesus Christ subtlety into your videos, inspired me to start reading the Word daily again! Love your projects, vids, and enthusiasm! God Bless!

Still super new to my business but my mistake was not staying organized and clean in the shop. I'm not like insane dirty but it has gotten where I am constantly trying to find something. I ended up having to shut down for a whole week to clean and organize. Lesson learned..... Put tools up and keep the place clean to increase efficiency

Love your channel! My Dad is 81 and he’s been making stuff out of wood his whole life. He likes your channel and it has inspired him to make the farmhouse style coffee table. He’s in the process of getting the wood so he hasn’t started the actual project yet. I’m going to be helping him. (He’s 81, blind in one eye and is missing a thumb) we’re excited about this project. It will keep him busy and it will bring the both of us closer together! Love your channel! You don’t realize how you’re impacting people for good. God Bless and thanks again!!!!

I've been woodworking for several years but haven't ever tried to make money with it. Your videos have been just what I needed to get started. I got my first order this weekend for a set of end tables and a coffee table. I made these three end tables based on your design and posted on Facebook Marketplace. They haven't sold but they have led 3 people to inquire about pricing and custom work. The 3rd inquiry led to the sale. Now my mind is racing about the possibilities. Thank you so much for your inspiring videos and encouraging content. Also, I love that you aren't afraid to show your faith in Jesus Christ front and center. Keep up the great work!!!

I began my woodworking journey in April on this year. I lost my job due to covid earlier this year and since I had alot of free time I decided to build myself a bed frame. An old friend saw my bed frame and wanted me to build her one as well. That became tbe first of many sales ive had this year. I'm beyond blessed to have found something I love and get to make a bit of extra money on the side. Watching your channel makes me happy since It feels like I found a little community of other people just like me. Thanks Matt, keep doing what your doing and appreciate everything you do

The end of this video really resonated with me. My neighbor is a wood worker as well. We make vastly different things, but we work together and bounce ideas off of each other. We lend each other tools. I recently used his jointer for the cutting board I'm making. He uses my table saw when he needs it. This craft needs to be less about competition and more about community. We all love it. Our projects come out better with some collaboration. My number one mistake as a new wood worker, too much research and not enough action. Don't get lost in the sauce of KZbin. Don't research your way out of making something. Don't look at all the fancy tools KZbinrs have and get discouraged. Do you have a saw, sandpaper, glue, and a couple clamps? Get out there and make something. TRY something. Learn from your mistakes. You'll surprise yourself.

Great video! I am watching you grow and it won't be long before you are number one! Believe It! Top 5 1. Not charging enough. I was worth way more than I thought I was. 2. Thinking I had to know everything about woodworking. 3 Thinking I had to buy every tool before I actually needed it for a job. 4. Always upset that my projects weren't perfect. There are always going to be some small imperfections that nobody will notice. 5. Was afraid to ask for advise when I would get stuck trying to figure something out. Thanks for what you do! Just found 731 and I am addicted. Thanks for all the great tips and how to advice. One of the early mistakes I made was to adjust the build on the fly without taking the time to draw it out. I had to re cut styles and rails for a cabinet door because i did not adjust for the new shorter dimensions. Adjusting your plans is fine, just take the time to think through what those changes will impact on the rest of the build.

Matt, again GREAT JOB!!!!! A friend of mine has told me many times, “It’s difficult to “define” quality. If you ask someone, “What’s a quality piece of furniture, what is quality service?” It’s difficult for people to articulate that, BUT, people KNOW what quality isn’t. They KNOW when quality isn’t there.” You do a great job, you are a “Quality Dude”. Thanks for all of your input, inspiration and sharing your knowledge. A few mistakes is that you think you don't have enough skills to start, you have to get out and do it. Myself was thinking a few years about it before I really started and it started when people saw a namesign out of wood and epoxy that I made for my newborn son. Now I am making epoxy coasters and it is sold out before I finished making it, so I promised to start a new batch after this weekend. Next mistake I made is thinking when you make a noticeable mistake that the customer thinks it's awful and won't want it anymore. Nothing is more true when you show it the customer and let them decide to restore or start over or keep it going because it's making it extra special. Your vids made me motivated to start out woodworking 3 weeks ago and it is already paying off, thank you so much! You are a real inspiration!

I started wood working when I moved out to California Stationed on Camp Pendleton. My first project that sold was blanket ladders and they sold like crazy. I mainly sold them during the fall. One huge mistake I would make is always wanting a project to be done faster than it should take. This causing me to cut corners or not wait until everything was completely dry. I soon learned patience!! Thanks for the videos and the support for the military. You’re a real one! Semper Fidelis and God bless

Matt, great stuff again. Love this. To me, the single most important thing you mentioned was making your project unique. You HAVE to do something that differentiates what makes your table, cutting board, flag or whatever, DIFFERENT than the others. If you can do this, sales will be much easier and people wont be beating you up on price, because there is nothing to compare it to. The other thing, is DON’T give in on price. Set a price that you think is fair, and hold to it. You will find the buyer that values your time and talent.

I’ve gotten hooked on your videos over the past few days! I’ve always enjoyed woodworking and wondered if it was a hobby that I could profit from in retirement. I’ve got a few years before I drop out of the corporate rat race, perfect time to start building something on the side to keep me busy in my golden years.

Would love to see 5 mistakes video. My biggest mistake was not using glue. Wood moves and brad nails will not hold forever. To separate myself from the pack on flags. I went from poly to epoxy. Keep the videos coming.

Great videos! You’re one of the first channels that got me interested in woodworking! You should do a video on shipping and how you approached it!

Hey brother great video early on I tried to spread myself out and make every kind of product without ever even becoming very proficient at one resulting in subpar quality.
