OMG, some people might think "what would I ever need this"... well, I need it now and this tutorial was a life savior. I'm using blender 4.1.1 and it worked perfectly. Thanks!

The only problem is that it doesn't block light bounces.
@edinspiegel7 ай бұрын
if you want to block lightbounces you can just place a plane with camera visibility turned off and a black color between the objects - that way it will block the bounces as well - oh and if you want the shadow to only affect a certain object, then you can use shadow linking to do that aswell

The reason shading doesn't show up is because it only appears if your render engine is set to cycles.

Ah, light linking... something that other 3D rendering software has had for a long time now, but it took Blender until recently to implement it. Well, better late than never.

How can i do that with hdri ? I want the background to be nice and bright but not light the szene (or at lrast adjust how much) i have this so often that i take a sky texture, and either i make it nice and bright and realistic but than all objects get lit suuuper much, or i make the hdri very dark, but than it looks unnatural, i know theres a away, allready done it a few times, might find the tutorial, but maybe u here know a fast easy method, a hdri linking folder or smt :)
@gordonbrinkmann7 ай бұрын
The light linking is something to specifically exclude or include objects differently from each other. If you simply want the whole scene to be lit differently than how bright the HDRI is to the camera, then just mix two different versions of the background shader with the "Is Camera Ray" output of the Light Path node in the Shader Editor.

But... I tested it, and I cant make a light to receive light but do not cast shadow using light linking. When I disable an object from Light Linking automatically disables it from Shadow Linking. Any way to avoid that? EDIT as Im writing this: It seems like the light/shadow links are a resource, so if you just duplicate them the light and dark links are not linked anymore and you can disable one object in one and disable it in another. This is awesome!
