I'm still in high school (going into senior year) and I have yet to have a real relationship. I think it's because I'm not confident with my body or my exterior at all, but sometimes I think it's about my interior and because I'm bland and hard to click with. I'm worried that I'm missing out on opportunities to have a good time with guys because I'm so cold to myself. Has anyone encountered any similar experiences?

Trust me, focus on your school first. It's your future, the guy you date at 17 probably won't be your future. If something comes up, great! If it doesn't, don't be disheartened! Gina Kameron Like me, there are lots of girls in this situation. It has nothing to do with you, or how you look, or how your personality is. The right guy will come around loving everything about you, inside & out! Just give it time, I'm 19 and still feel like I'm stuck in this situation. Just be yourself and you will eventually find your guy ;D

In my opinion, I like hookups, because I'm a practical person I don't like texts or calls or being jealous of someone (I'm not very romantic person), but you have to be strong for that shit bc if you don't control your emotions you can get REALLY hurt. But you know, it's fun when you don't have time for a relationship and you just wanna have a good time. I mean, the sexual life of a woman doesn't define her personality at all.

I feel extremely lucky because I hooked up with a guy during the first week of my freshman year, and we were friends with benefits for two months before becoming a couple. We've been officially together for almost 9 months now and I think what made it so easy and perfect was that I didn't get involved with him with any expectation. I was attracted to him, he was attracted to me, and we both respected each other. I think that's the most important part. You can have friends with benefits but pleeeease, don't be with someone if you don't feel respected by them. Great video Katy!

My problem is that I don't have any of these issues. I block out all guys and I guess would consider myself 'scared' of them. I don't talk to them, leading to not much interaction with any, feeling ashamed of myself for not having a guy to at least talk to later on. My best friend always seems to be talking to a new guy because she is good with them (aka she's a huge flirt) and I am beyond jealous. I know boys don't define me, but it would be nice to not chicken out. I wish my personality around my friends would open up when I am around guys. Any advice?
@courtland62279 жыл бұрын
BlondeBeautyxo24 I'm going through a similar situation. Most of my friends are in serious relationships and I can't even talk to a guy. I think a lot of it has to do with lack of self confidence. Don't be ashamed about not being able to interact with guys because you're definitely not alone in this. Have you tried talking to your friend about it? Sorry, this isn't really advice. I feel exactly the same way. It's not an easy road. I wish you well :)

Loved this video so much! So relatable, I'm the same age as you and I love hearing people going through similar situations. What I've learned is that boys our age (high school, starting college) are still maturing. They're not all looking for girlfriends like girls are looking for boyfriends. But with that being said it's totally okay to hook up with boys like they hook up with girls! When something good comes around you will know it. JUST DO YOU we are all still so young!!

In my opinion, I think hooking up and FWB is a bunch of crap. Not only does it hurt you emotionally, it causes the guy to see you as nothing but a sexual object. They won't respect you, so don't expect them to call. It's best to respect yourself and your body. Who cares what everyone else is doing?
@carliemichelle199 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the person. To me if you hookup with someone with zero expectations and realize it's just for fun it's not a big deal. You could easily spin it and say that guys are only seen as sexual objects in hookups because hookups are meant to be purely physical. It's a bit rude and presumptuous to say that you don't respect your body if you hookup when that's really not the case at all.
@webkinzcpgirl2099 жыл бұрын
I think FWB depends on the person you are. It has nothing to do with respecting yourself, what you do with your body is your choice and it doesn't define self respect. Some people just prefer different things. Personally, I can't do it because I'd rather a relationship but I know people who are happy with it. It's just a matter of preference, either or is fine and its nothing to look down on.
@queenvictoria8335 жыл бұрын
ok you are wRoNg lol. the guy doesn't always see the woman as an object (although that does happen a lot) sometimes it is completely respectful and just physical. probably the only reason why you would get hurt emotionally is because you catch feelings, which is TOTALLY 100% ON YOU because YOU control your decisions and you decided to start this with the other person knowing that you might/will begin to have feelings for them. (guy or girl) also, most people don't do it because its a "trend" they do it because they want sex. period. and if someone is doing it for some sort of fulfillment or bullshit then that's on them. sorry about my rant i just needed to express my opinion haha.

I definitely agree with your answer for the first question, I've lived much of my life a lot like yours and used to really think about wanting to have a boyfriend and then I tried to put it on the back burner and focus on other stuff, and I ended up really understanding who I am. And then spontaneously, I ended up meeting my current boyfriend and it was so easy. I never had to doubt about whether he liked more if I had to chase him, he straight up asked me out and was all in the relationship and it's just so healthy and happy and loving. And I definitely think the media puts focus on women, even in this day and age, to do something for guys or your significant other and it's a very heteronormative and patriarchal way of living. If you want to have just physical stuff, then do it, but make sure whatever you're doing, it's because you want and it makes you happy, not because you feel like you should do it or if it makes you feel shitty.

That last part about freshman year summed up my life as well. Summer and fall semesters were full of dumb mistakes in all aspects. After finally coming to terms with the fact that I deserved better and couldn't live with the fwb & hookup culture anymore, I walked into my first day of spring semester and a cute guy sat next to me and struck up a convo. Here I am now 7 months later and we've been dating for almost 6 months! Have confidence and focus on yourself. The guys worth being with will come to you. (:

Ladies, don't settle. Love is not "you give me what I want." True love is "I will sacrifice what I want to love you." True love *is* patience, kindness, gentleness, humility, celebration, forgiveness, joy, truth, protection, hope, and perseverance. Love is not a feeling. Love *does*. Wait for a *man*; the one who isn't afraid to treat you the same no matter who he is with; the one who values you and *honors* and *respects* you. ...just wanted to put that out there. Girl, you are LOVED. No matter what. (1 John 4:10, 1 Corinthians 13)

Katy you are so right about the first question about how you shouldn't have to chase someone and things will just fall into place. @meganmcgoldrick989 жыл бұрын
Going through the exact same thing as far as the "hook-up" culture goes. Just going to parties, maybe having too much to drink and just hooking up. Like that's fine but what's worse is when they text you and take an interest in you then it just stops? I also agree that I've tended to numb my emotions so much and it's so hard to cry at situations where it's most necessary to cry. I always tell myself to cry but I physically can't. I think alcohol has the tendency to do that also just numb you down and it's probably affected me sober. Ah the party scene kids. I still don't understand how girls want relationships and boys don't yet you still see people in relationships at my age. You sometimes think "what do they have that I don't?" It's not even a matter of being attractive to a guy or kissing a guy, it's being good enough to be in a relationship like you could go out there and kiss anyone it's a matter of relationships. But put it this way, we've all got an opportunity to have such a good life ahead of us at this age and we don't need to have the emotional roller coaster of a relationship affecting it. Putting someone first instead of yourself. They can also stop up from becoming successful just being so blinded and infatuated by love. Sorry for the rant just loved this video definitely spoke to me! x

I think it's important to clarify that just because you feel like just hooking up is "lowering yourself" doesn't mean it's demeaning for everyone. I'm assuming you meant it in the context of you want more, therefore you shouldn't settle for not getting it. But for some people (women included) causal sex is more than enough. They aren't lowering themselves down for attention, they're just living life the way they want to. Casual hook ups aren't always a mistake and I think it's important not to generalize. Would you ever say a guy is just looking for attention if he was having casual sex? Not typically. Sometimes some people want just physical, just like how sometimes some people want just emotional. It's all about doing what's best for you. Oppose to one side is lowering yourself, and the other side is "standing up for yourself"
@wildwolf56219 жыл бұрын
Unlike most women, guys don't care about attention

Oh sorry, you recently researched multiple psychological studies where they all concluded that there is a substantial about of evidence that says that women are the only gender on the planet that crave and want attention? because if not, not really sure if the word "valid" works there. You may think that based on the environment you've experienced in your lifetime, but you can't conclude that there are no guys out there that don't want attention.

We may had a bad decision and wrong choices in our lives but it doesn't mean that everyone is allowed to judge us, don't be ashamed with your mistakes because it's the reason why we learned in our life. If you're hooking up with someone just be sure that you're protected so you won't regret in the end.
