Probably because of the short amount of time they had to start the spinning. If you didn't find something to spin within the 10 minutes, then you'd lose. So he was probably thinking that a short cycle would get to the spinning stage sooner in its program.

I just decided to test whether one could easily be found or whether it would be one of those cases where it was hard to get the right key words. I typed ‘hypnotic’ into the App Store, it suggested ‘hypnotic spiral’, I clicked on that and downloaded the first app and when I opened it it immediately started spinning. So in total it just took a few seconds. This was a few years ago so the apps and speed would have been different, but there would have been something.

I'd try to make a water wheel in the sink. Find something circular, stick a hanger through the middle to be its axle and position it under a running faucet. Should go until they got the next water bill and turn it off. I imagine actually getting it to go reliably on the first try would take some ingenuity and luck though.

Rear/front wheel drive vehicles can be lifted via jack and then set to drive for as long as the gasoline lasts. No gas pedal necessary, a full tank will last more than a day.

I would have gone into the kitchen to get a hand mixer. Tape it in a standing position, switch it on while it is plugged in and just wait. Alex would probably say, it is still spinning....Or they could have gone with a fan if there is one in the house. The dinosaur was genius though.

you need to be careful with those, continuous use tends to make them overheat (especially the cheap ones). so make sure to choose a low speed.

I'm sorry, but even the old ones will only spin as long as there's a read/write job in queue. Which means it'll be like the washing machine, and a do a couple of stops underway, leaving you with something like 30-60 seconds, at best, before the first stop. You could start a cd-player though.

She was looking for Sycamore seeds. They spin as they fall to the ground from the tree due to their shape (kinda like a propeller) so she was probably thinking of finding one, taking it somewhere high and then dropping it. Then in the time it took to realise there wasn't one, thought of the drill one which was better in terms of time.

They were given a clue for a great strategy, and only a handful of people in the comments even got it. A decent weight hanging from a longish string will spin for a really long time if you wind it up a lot. But yeah you have to give credit for the drill.

Take the drill apart, rip the motor out of it, cut the plug end off a chord, wire the plug end to the electric drill motor, plug it into an outlet. It will spin (effectively) forever so long as it stays plugged in and it isn't hard to do.
