There's a lot of talk about using sprinting as a senior for health. Last summer I did sprint and I did hurt my Achilles tendon - badly but no ruptures or only micro ones . I self rehab from not being able to walk to now doing pogo jumps and one foot heel raises with no pain at all. This spring I want to go back to sprinting BUT without the tendonopathy . Do you have any advise for post youth beginners ? Dos and don'ts? Perhaps a video on the subject if you don't already have ( in case you do already, share a link, please)? I will be more careful this time and not race my 15 year old son - at least not before I can motivate him with an ass whooping.🤣

I have been implementing these methods with clients of mine for months now. They range in age from 35-80. Thankfully I have had no seniors get injured. I was very slow in progression starting with 2x week of matching, low skip, a-skip, the 10 in 10 moves basically. When they look very good with those (2-4weeks for most)I will add wicket runs and very light sled sprints telling the to go medium speed and buildup. Basically progression is very slow and some never run at top speed. But it is amazing to see some of the progress that people can make even at 70-80 yrs old.

I love your training philosophy and goals. Do you do any speed training yourself for health and fitness as a master athlete? If so, how do you do it? There has been studies that have shown sprinting is good for metabolic health against common diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Could a masters endurance athlete incorporate any of the speed drills (bounce, isometrics, jumps) once a week?

Hi coach, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos recently and am very intrigued. I’ve been an athlete my whole life and I’m probably going to start incorporating some cns/ sprint training into what I’m doing. Surfing is one of my passions and requires a lot of explosiveness and functional strength. This might be unusual but I’m wondering what your opinion is on cns/ sprint training for surfing and whether or not it can be effective? Thank you!

Hey coach, I read your article about training the "400/800 guy". I want to become the best at the 800m I could be. Should Should I do it how Ive heard you say to do the 400? Doing top speed 2-3x a week, then lactate in season (but the extended version you mention in the article).

50:06 Coach, curious on the times when you were using stopwatches. How come you averaged the best two rather than average the total 3 sprints?
@coachtonyholler
@coachtonyholler 6 ай бұрын
Makes sense to me. We want BEST time, not average time. But, since using manual timing, need to remove percentage error and base “best time” off of the TWO best times.

Hello Coach Holler. I've been implementing a feed the cat's model with my HS track team for the past 3.5 seasons. I think I've seen you say that if you are doing lactate work in season, you are not going to see the speed gains you would see with just pure speed training days during a week. I'm concerned this is impacting the speed improvement for my sprinters. I don't currently have off season speed training so the 11 week track season is it for speed gains for us. I'm considering avoiding any lactate workouts until the last 4-5 weeks of our season to see if we can get more speed gains. Thoughts? Thank you!

Try it. We only do 8-9 of them in a 19 week season. Never when banged up. Pure speed (max-v) may not improve but 100-200-400 times improve.

Hello, just a query about scheduling. we are currently in season with optional meets on saturday, prepping for States in 4 weeks then we have a further 7 weeks until nationals with maybe 2 optional meets in between. Should I schedule another lactate when we don’t go to meets so 1 speed 2 lactate or have 2 speed 1 lactate? Thank you 😊
@coachtonyholler
@coachtonyholler 6 ай бұрын
I never do two lactate workouts in one week. You CAN do one lactate and one meet.

Coach, what if you are on a S,X,S,X,S schedule but finding out your athletes not recovered enough for the next speed day? You seeing a lot of tired legs. Is it okay to space out the speed days to twice a week. Thanks

@@coachtonyholler I actually had to not dress out for my P.E. weightlifting class because I had a track meet after school! Or the Football coach would make me lift on Fridays. All Sports athletes took P.E. in my High school. I thought that was universal: not at other High schools in our league and not at our rival high school .
