I enjoyed this game a lot as I watched you play it, I agree with you that it wasn’t the ending that we probably all wanted and it happens a lot in horror games. I also understand why the person making the game probably did that. The kid seems to be at least 13 or so years old, and tries to find out what happened to his name just to find out they were a child predator who was also trying to lure him in by giving him that toy. Probably seeing the note the creep left for him on his own toy on top of all the other notes, the paranormal stuff and knowing that happened right next door to him including it happened to kids in his age group seemed to throw him over the edge. It also is know that teens and young kids process those things in a slower time due to how the brain is developing. I get it a bit on why the creator did it, but I also feel like they could of done it differently

From the very start, I really liked the attention to detail for the sound design. The wind howling, flies buzzing, and the random creaks of an old house really add a sense of realism to the world being created. Combined with the unsettling music & moving shadows, it really begins to grow that classic feeling of being alone somewhere at night in which every sound and things seen out of the corner of the eye gives a sudden course of adrenaline, fear, and anxiety. Is it all a trick of the mind, or are you in danger?

So true! Sound design can legitimately make or break a game. I was playing Skyrim yesterday and my vampire slayer went into Broken Fang Cave. I’ve been playing Skyrim for years so I’m not sure how I never noticed this but you can hear swarms of flies around the corpses and body parts. That game has never unsettled me before but yesterday I genuinely felt disturbed. Isn’t that so odd? How just one small detail can completely change the tone of something?

@@clorby22 Yeah, sometimes some sounds are so quiet that you don't even notice it the first time through, but, once you're keyed into the sound, it becomes impossible to not hear it. It wasn't until fairly recently that I played games with headphones instead of speakers, and I am still amazed at all the layers of sound I missed when revisiting some games. Really does add a lot to games.

That was legitimately Light Yagami's laugh from Death Note when he finally confesses to being Kira. They just added an effect to sound lighter and more child like. It's very infamous in the Anime community as one of the greatest voice acting moments of all time. Of course it would give you chills Gab 😅.

Maybe there is a alternate ending? When you're talking to the kid and they ask about a white toy, like a monkey. It was in the refrigerator, so what happens if you see it before and then tell them? At the end has me wondering because they show them again then, a sentence with red letters, maybe they would be different colors and say something else? Then have not the bleak ending.

Sometimes a cliché is born by avoinding clichés, if we're having a lot of bleak endings just because, maybe there were a lot of people (critics) not very happy with that many "open ending", "abstract ending" or "trauma ending" and wanted something more shocking... I say this because the reason we don't have as many jumpscares anymore is not because they were overused, but because they were ridiculed. If an author feels judged for certain stuff on their story before they even start writing, they will try to avoid that criticism at all costs, no matter that they are making a worse mistake on the way.

This was an interesting watch. I think the game itself would be more satisfying if you really could help the restless spirit kids/dolls. And I agree, the ending ruined it. And yeah, in an actual scenario, this would be investigated. For one, dead bodies do all kinds of really gross decay-that hanging man would stink to high heaven and police/EMS would enter the house. If the neighbors all thought the house owner was missing, the first thing the police would do is clear his residence. If many children went missing in this area, a boarded up suspicious house would be investigated. If the (now dead) house owner stopped paying his mortgage, the bank would claim the house and the second they sent someone to evaluate/clear it out, the dead man would be reported and the house would be investigated. That's just four different options! And yes, most agencies do have tip lines so the kid could try calling them (or like, bribe an adult to do it so the call was taken seriously).

That ending tho 😂 It has such great potential! The ambiance, the sound, the story itself if great but for example the doll had no business being so goofy lmao and his random little chucky jumpscare in the middle was unnecessary. The missing/d3ad children story looked so fundamental and sad that I truly wish they'd emphasize on it, for us to help them in any way. To top that all off the ending was so empty, so ego-driven by the production/effects lol, butchered the game for me. Indie horror needs to make a comeback, with proper stories no matter the "quality" of the effects.

Why did the doll maker kill themselves? 31:02 Another child. Less creepy than the other one considering they look more like Voldemort than like they’re bloated. Still just as horrible though. Why this man got the creepiest artwork? Edit: It has come to my attention that the laugh was from Death Note. Seeing as how I haven’t seen it, I must question how people feel after hearing that laugh for the first time. Did it give you the sense that something horrible was about to happen?

Maybe it’s my depression. But I feel like some ppl create art to express something more they’re feeling. A way to show their pain in a way that isnt directly understandable. For example this game maybe the dev went through a heart break somehow felt like someone wanted to steal his heart who he was but he eventually chose himself and walked away. He contemplated suicide but instead put his pain into the game and the suicide at the end is more vicarious than being bleak for the sake of being bleak. It’s more of a reaching out hoping someone sees their pain. Idk. Sometimes when my depression gets to that point where I feel like disappearing is all I want and no one would even notice I draw it out, create a story, a metaphor for my pain. And it helps the sadness not feel so heavy. Keeps me from ever actually acting on it bc I can go back and look at the last time and realize I got through it then I’ll get through it again and the time between sketches gets longer. Like I said I’m probably projecting, but sometimes it’s not just to be bleak it’s not to tear jerk, it’s almost a cry for help.

The game didn't need to end that way because the main character wasn't really part of the story. The main character is a stand in for the player, and breaking the character away from the player's avatar to just do something is jarring.
