I think the most valuable part of this video is when he talked about Padraig Harrington swinging a broomstick. If you can swing a stick on plane and then just grip the club so you can take the same swing and hit the ball with the face instead of the shaft or "the stick" you can hit it damn near dead straight every time. It's the easiest way to learn to swing a golf club.

Good luck with the school, I imagine that would be an awesome day. Massive fan of Dana.

At 9:03 Dana reveals the most important part, "You are pulling on the handle". That transition where you pull down is what gets us all in trouble.

Wow Brendan, I've followed you for a couple of years now and seen the transformation in your swing. It's looking so good now. Very similar to Milo without doubt. 👍

I would look into when you start moving your weight toward the front side. I suspect the air swing will have an earlier forward move. For me working on that got me into a much better impact.

On the air swing you clear your left hip from the top versus sliding into the ball. Simple as that.

Trying to "hit" the ball creates big problems. I like the Eddie Merrins school of thought: swinging the handle with the forearms. Easier said than done for all of us amateurs who have been trying to "hit" the ball for many years and have a default swing that tries to.

good stuff. I guess it is a bit of a natural grow path. Initially you slice every ball, then you start drawing a bit by tilting your shoulders. But you know the feeling of shallowing the shaft, and then you need to get more on top of the ball. I see exact same thing happening to my swing as well.

Personally I think part of the problem is so many instructors telling people to start at address with side bend in order to square the shoulders. Dana doesn't do this, which is good. The necessary right side bend at address for each individual's body type will happen naturally with the right hand lower than the left on the grip. The key is to rotate the shoulders into what will probably feel like a closed position for most people. Not by tilting, just rotating the torso so that the upper and lower centers are aligned. Exaggerating side bend at address is what gets people into that hip slide dumped under position through the 'impact interval.' It's much more difficult to generate speed from this position because it's much more difficult to get pressure onto the lead leg to post up (eccentric as Tony Luczak says) and throw and rotate through (again, keeping the two centers aligned).

*Brendon same concern right forearm. When you flush it textbook no awesome and your focus is on the wrong area. I'm surprised Dana continued this way. Provide me 5 minutes of your time Ironwood GC coming from Whittier but I will be in Vegas this week till Sat.*

Hey andy. What would help with the feel. “Maybe” Remember the swing from the top the knees and hips will move first the torso will follow. Make sure your not turning the upper body first.
@arjanpetersen
@arjanpetersen 3 жыл бұрын
then it is not for you. Remember brendon is a low hcp'er. And he already shallows the club naturally. If you don't do this. Then take a lesson to solve bigger issues.

I think the move B was working on might help me. I actually try to do the right-side bend tilt and when it works I have a nice draw but often deteriorates to a hook and even my better shots to greens come in too hot.

The arms need to get in front of you, not be delayed. The Harvey Pennick “magic move”. Drop the hands and turn. Like the Tiger Butch Harmon lesson/drill where Tiger gets the club in front with the arms instead of getting them stuck behind.
@ddahlquist
@ddahlquist 3 жыл бұрын
Quick note the lead arm adduction early in the downswing gives room for the trail arm to get in front of the body. Your not trying to push the arms in front. Just like throwing a ball or any other sport. If you try and drop the arms down in front of the body you would develop a late pull on the handle and create other issues. Remember Tiger as a junior was a unbelievable long and straight driver of the ball. When he was with john his second teacher.

Wow. I have just been studying that video of Tiger and Butch. It is so different to what the “modern” approach seems to be which is fully fire the hips first then pull the arms through. Tiger: “I feel my clubhead exists [impact] first and my hips are still pointing to the right.” Or words to that effect. He won the Tiger Slam using that.

In that same piece he and butch emphasized that’s what I feel and feel and real are not even close. They also said this is terrible advice to almost every golfer.

Most people when they drop the arms start the turn naturally ala Marty scheinblum no turn cast drill
@johnrodgers6049

It’s all about sequence and connection. Body too fast and arms behind doesn’t work because the arms get in front (to the ball) too late, the body has stopped turning and we all know if the acceleration of the body stops, the club flips (club head out races the hands) = no shaft lean and terrible impact.

Your "air swing" looks seriously right to left on the swing path cutting across the ball. But if it works for you, great. Maybe it is the camera angle.

I've been watching this guy for 5 years almost and he's gone through countless different coaches. It seems like he's going way off the plantation and into the weeds. Every coach seems to have a different approach. Golf shouldn't be so dam hard to get good.

I've been following you for years. But alot of these videos recently are so all over the place. I'm still not sure what was taught here. You basically said your practice swing is great and how do you duplicate it. But Monte already told you your practice swing is great because there is zero thought given to squaring your face! Once you actually need to square your face you will see all the compensations. Just honestly seems a waste of some very talented coaches time and energy. It's like they purposely want to confuse us ,😂. Too many good instructors on social media who are not out to over complicate things and are not scared to share their swing philosophies for free.

This Dana guy is a wast of time. For one thing if you take a lesson from a guy that never takes a swing you should ask for your money back. Your transition is your problem. Please watch Steve Stricker and compare your swing to his. Look at his transition. Perfection, stop wasting your time or even better have Dana watch it with you and have him explain the difference in a video and put that on KZbin
