are any new videos in this series in planning? really like this how to for bike photos.. would like to know more about technical aspects: what type of focus are you using? focus area?
@punkbloater7 жыл бұрын
You can get good shots with your phone too but you need to be closer, like realy close, you get sprayed down with mud and have to take a pedal to the face once in a while but it toughens you up.
@zyoungson2157 жыл бұрын
that sounds ridiculous .

i've tried this technique and I will agree that in fact... it will work.

I would really like to know if he prefocused or used continued focusing. Oh, and at what focal length was each shot.

he's using an a9, that basically answers the question...😂

I like that type of videos! What was the gear you were using? 70-200 f/3.4?... I have a 50mm and a kitlens and I don't like getting too close, afraid of getting mud on my gear, any suggestions? Should I get a 70-200?
@pinkbike7 жыл бұрын
Matt just sent this response to us: '70-200 sony SE f2.8 GM lens is what I used. If you don't want to get wet and muddy, then you should wet then you should invest in one. At least an f4 preferably, especially if you are getting high up into the apertures and shooting action in bad conditions.'
@timspannagel61607 жыл бұрын
looks like a sony a9 with the 70-200 f2.8GM. 70-200 is always a good lense :P

Thanks for the video. Well done. Tho I'm curious...why did you choose to shoot with a shutter speed of 1/2000? Would a speed of 1/750 be enough to stop action and allow to lower the ISO?
@5tr4nge754 жыл бұрын
1/750 would introduce background blur, or make the rider blurred. 1/1250 is just about right for mountainbike photography. Adds just enough blur to give a sense of movement, but doesn't completely freeze the image, or blur too much.
@_systemd3 жыл бұрын
@@5tr4nge75 he's even coming ~~towards the photographer, so there's no background blur from panning( which is usually highly welcome anyway to get some of the blur in the photo) and the rider is doing estimated 15kph (and that I am optimistic) in that turn, thats around 4m/s, means in those 1/750th he moves ~0.5cm. considering it's not a tight headshot , you don't see those 0.5cm ruining the final result. I often shoot birds at 1/1250, which are surely faster than that punter disaster. on top of that using slower shutter speed will introduce some tire-blur as they rotate, which again is welcome to add dynamics. also to keep in mind, at some point there's a balance between higher shutter speed producing sharper image, however the 3x higher iso to counter that makes the extra details disappear in higher noise levels.

Awesome video, couple questions after watching it: Should I be on Continuous Auto Focus or Manual Focus? And zooming in, should I be using zoom to blur the background or no zoom?
@ricaaat3 жыл бұрын
no professional here but if you frame it perfectly for set spot, manually focus on it and then just take lots of pictures while the person is doing that section. doing this, the rider will be in focus while being in the composition and position you wanted them to be in.
@philipdarden40116 жыл бұрын
A little late to the party but what do you use for focus? Tracking or focus on a point and wait until they are in the frame?

It's not all about camera gear but in darkish conditions a good lens and sensor make a difference in your photo capabilities. By the way this 70-200mm lens is about 2500 € :)
@obi-wankenobi98717 жыл бұрын
Yea but there are cheaper alternatives that are 99% of that lens. He earns his money with it, so he can justify going to the point of diminishing returns
@trailsurfersendurocrew7 жыл бұрын
KZbin User Yes for his use it definitely makes sense. But in low light (in the forest) situations you'll notice the difference between pro gear and cheaper options more than in brighter surroundings.
@trailsurfersendurocrew7 жыл бұрын
I don't want to say it's all about the equipment. Of course the main factor is the photographer himself. But good equipment certainly helps.
@obi-wankenobi98717 жыл бұрын
Of cause, i used to do a lot of photography myself, but an expensive lens isnt gonna help with the light situation. Pentax offers very good value for the money. Their 18-56mm standard lense is also pretty sick.

Hey ya dummy, an expensive lens makes all the difference with light. Go back to photography school chico!

Exposure priority to avoid motion blur. If you don't have sufficient aperture or ISO, arranging the motion as mostly toward you can help.
@brettshelfer49487 жыл бұрын
What are you on about? You mean aperture priority?
@pbillings8087 жыл бұрын
Brett Shelfer No, I mean exposure priority. Dial in an exposure time short enough to avoid motion blur.
@brettshelfer49487 жыл бұрын
OK, I've never heard of that before, Canon right? There's TV (Shutter priority) AV (Aperture priority) are the main two if you use them auto modes, Manual for me, 1/500th or above to stop motion blur, shooting in that dark wooded area he's shooting 1/2000th, his aperture is f3.5 and ISO sensitivity is 2500 , Don't think your on the same page here? To do a pan shot 1/40th F11 ISO 400 that would make a nice dark pan maybe depending on the light and weather. I shoot a lot of racing similar to Matt, I'm shooting anything from 1/800th to 1/3200th wide open at f2.8 and manually control my ISO.
@pbillings8087 жыл бұрын
Yes, Shutter priority (TV) is what I meant by "exposure priority". "Shutter priority" is probably a better term since exposure is a combination of shutter time, aperture, and ISO, but I've heard many people speak of "exposure time" as synonymous with "shutter time".
@adamsteineke46616 жыл бұрын
Just for the record, TV means Time Value in Canon speak.

That music and whistling in the background has to go. It made an interesting video almost unbearable to watch. Who ever made that decision needs to go back to school. Its amazingly annoying. Not that you guys would read this comment and take it to heart, but still. I just dont get how anyone would think music in the background of a video that is supposed to be informative would be a good idea. And its annoying that I feel the need to tell you about this... I stopped watching after about two minutes.
