The smell of mink oil is one of my childhood favorites that has lasted into my ‘older’ age. My wife is convinced that my boots are held together by the oil and there’s no leather left. Just oil, laces and eyelets. Thanks for sharing this simple video. Happy New Year, and god bless!

Great looking dinner. I have breakfast for dinner quite often seeing as how I have my own chickens. In fact, today for dinner, I had breakfast burritos.

👍👍👍 I 'Dubbin' (a Brand Name Leather Grease and a term used even when using another brand Leather Treatment Product) my Leather Gear twice annually. Boots and shoes .. regular polishing thereafter with a good quality 'shoe polish' keeps them looking 'spiff' and in good condition. I learned this at age 13 at Boarding School and thereafter in the Army. Now, 60+ years later, a somewhat engrained habit 😏. I like the Cabin 👍. Thanks for sharing .. take care ..

Irish Setters are owned by Redwing I believe. Good quality boots. I have a mink oil/beeswax mix that I use. I like things that do what they are made to do and last. 👍🏼 When it gets really cold I switch to pac boots with wool liners.

Back in the day we used this stuff called mink oil. Worked great. And saddle soap. I'm definitely old school.
@MartinKarlsson-ot8dq18 күн бұрын
I still use mink oil from the stores to oil my boots up and saddle soap if i need a more deepcleaning. What they call mink oil is still recomended here from the big boot Brands if you have G-tex or sympatex liner in them because it still lets the liner breathe wich not lard or other leather fat will do according to the Brands...

Me too ! Use saddle soap to clean my boots and mink oil or Obinoffs to condition them . Leave the lard for cooking and baking. I also use a Peet dryer to dry them before conditioning them .

Nice video, thank you. We are close to France here, they have big jars of goose and duck grease (for cooking) in almost every grocery store, use on everything leather I own! Best wishes and a very Happy New Year to everyone. C.

I use the wax from a toilet ring . Spread it all over like you did then hit it with the heat gun melts right in and waterproofs great . Read it in an old hunting magazine.

Problem with using lard is critters are more apt to chew on them.

I recently got a job at a lumber yard and a job requirement is steel/safety toe boots. My first pair was Irish Setter and almost immediately it got a hole in the toe which kept growing. It got to about the size of a quarter before I spread on some Flex Glue in a desperate attempt to "fix" it. Just a few weeks ago I bought a winter pair of Carolina composite toe insulated boots. I like them very much and I am going to be taking better care of them. The boots you have look great for 3 years old.

I used to work at a lumber mill. Had a pair of Keen composite boots. They were great! Very comfortable and lasted about 2 years. Best of luck at your lumber mill job! Happy New Year!

Breakfast for dinner...excellent, I have this myself on a regular basis. Cleaning and re-treating leather boots is a necessary evil if they are expected to last and perform. I use several methods during the year to keep mine in shape. SnoSeal for wet use is top shelf, Red Wing leather conditioner is second to none at keeping leather supple, I'm sure there are others as good. Nice job sir, happy feet for a Happy New Year. God bless, stay safe.

I think drying your boots quickly by the stove makes the leather crack. Maybe I am wrong, but I just open them up like you did, but let them slowly dry at room temp. Ask the shoe repair guy. He will know for sure. Redwing has very good quality leather. They are known for it. I think they tan their own, if I am not mistaken.

A nice looking dinner. Eggs are great when the yolks are runny. Nice work on the leather boots. Does that process work on other leather products, such as jackets, and gloves? Hope you have a Happy New Year. Cheers, and God Bless! 👍👍✌️🇨🇦

I've used lard on pretty much every leather good I own. Seems to work well on most. For gloves or a jacket, after oiling, you can take a dry rag and wipe them off to get rid of the oily feel on the surface of the leather. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.
@Tinkering90218 күн бұрын
You might have luck mixing the lard somewhere between 1:1 and 1:2 beeswax to lard, adding more lard to get it as spreadable as you want. It will help with the water resistance. You can make something similar for your wooden tool handles, 1:1:1 beeswax, linseed or tung oil, and turpentine. I like to go .5 partx turp because I just don't like the smell much.

I had those boots in the past, great outside leather, I wore out the inside liner in no time flat, ouch. For hunting, I avoid scents, so I use SnoSeal wax. Once a year, every year on my similar longer lasting and lighter Danner boots.
