It's also worth mentioning that Zipp, often compared to Rainbow Dash, is much more of an individualist in my opinion. Rainbow Dash cared a lot about what others think about her, she wanted to be seen, praised, whereas the thought of others seeing her fail or do something 'uncool' could paralyze her. Zipp just does what she thinks is right, no matter what others may think. That's another example of how G5 changed the theme compared to G4.

This is an EXCELLENT point. All the G5 ponies, but mostly Zipp, have no problem "doing their own thing", and that makes all her fun mystery-solving bits more fun. It's all about being yourself.

Zipp is more stoic, intelligent, and introverted than Rainbow. Unlike Rainbow, she doesn't like the spotlight. I feel like Zipp and Rainbow Dash wouldn't get along if they lived in the same era. Rainbow's arrogance would rub Zipp the wrong way.

@@82dorrin I think they could get along sort of the way Rarity learned to get along with Applejack - they may have quite different personalities, but they learned to 'tolerate each other' and then they actually could understand each others point of view quite well. With Dash and Zipp it could go easier since they could engage in flying together, maybe some friendly competition and inspiring each other to push the boundaries... I feel like Zipp could see the benefits of having a skilled flier friend, even if she didn't like Dash's arrogance, and vice versa for Dash - she'd probably prefer Zipp as a flying buddy over, say, Lightning Dust. Especially over time, as they'd learn more about each other.

Twilight before her ruler of Equestria time with Sunny, Applejack and Fluttershy with Hitch, Rainbow Dash with Zipp, Rarity with Pipp, Pinkie Pie with Izzy, Spike with Sparky and Starlight and or Sunset with Misty. That is of course when Misty is reformed.

The notion about how FIM was about how interpersonal connections are powerful in their own way while G5 as a whole is about an individual's ability to enact change is something I never really picked up on. I guess I realized that subconsciously (which is probably why I've been enjoying MYM and TYT much more than the rest of the fandom it seems), but I was never able to put it into words like that

Damn, this is a good analysis dude. One thing I really love is how kinetic and fast pace the intros seem to be getting over time. You look at the G3 intro, which took time to name every single character and what they like to do. Then FiM had a significantly more energetic feel and forwent naming the characters, opting to list only their attributes in simple phrases. Now, with MYM, we simply have splash screens following characters doing specific actions that are intrinsic to them. It think the faster nature of this intro (both in terms of BPM and pacing) just makes it more hype by default. Not once did I skip MYM’s intro, both for the fantastic visuals and bouncy as hell music.

When I saw you mention not having as many background characters, I think it's also because it's much easier for 2d models to blend together into the background of a wide area than 3d. Sense moving 3d models scattered around a large background are much more noticeable and potentially cluttering especially for a series, but that's just a bit of speculation :]

Spoilers if you haven’t seen Make Your Mark but ||I think Misty’s gonna play a big role in this theme. The cutie mark is very much a big, prominent symbol of identity and individuality. Misty doesn’t have one. Her relationship with Opaline is holding her back, she won’t let her be her own individual. And that would play into the title too. Make your *Mark.* The theme song even seems to be aware of this, it takes a moment to show each character being themself accompanied by a big flash of their cutie mark and associated imagery. I think this does feel very deliberate. They don’t want you to forget about cutie marks and what they mean. They even pull a Magical Mystery Cure in one episode where Sunny and Hitch swap cutie marks and personalities. And Misty is obviously going to be important later on. I can see her story so far ending with her getting her own cutie mark. Being her own person. Making her mark.

This is a great analysis. I am big fan review series, but you don't see many reviews/critques/discussions about songs and musical numbers beyond top 10 lists and the like. I really love the new theme song, the beat wants to you dance and sing along and that is powerful. that's the beauty of music period, it motivates you to get up and tap your feet. also the drum beat in the g4 mlp theme song gives me a church vibe.

Only thing i dont like about g5 are the few and short songs... I loved the G4 songs also the G5 songs sounds great but most of them are only like 1 min long...

It's cute, but doesn't seem get nearly level of popularity the MLPFIM series did. I absolutely love how they went about doing the animation stylization. I'm really glad it didn't turn into the kind show so many where saying it was going to be. The moment they heard sunny being an activist, so many were certain it was going turn into trashy SJW type show

while im not sure i but into the subtext as much as you are implying i do think the new song is a good deviation from the norm of mlp.....g5 as a whole has thus far impressed me,not as a stand up to g4 ,but and evolution moving forward from it. its a continuation and a direct sequal,this is true (and the first time mlp has actually done this) but id does not try to BE g4...which is why im glad they didint recycle names and characters yet again....g5 is being g5,not g4 part 2. and i think thats what makes good. every generation had a great contrabution and now its G5s turn.
