People have COMPLETELY forgotten about volume and tone controls. Slash plays with his multiple times every song. People are hilarious. Thanks for pointing this out. I have always dreamed about hearing this amp in real life, let alone owning it.

This is the best sounding Marshall I've ever played. Nice compression, tone, feeling. OK, if I would stand in front of it without earplugs it would pierce my ears. People do not understand a real Marshall. The same with the Vintage Modern... you need to know how to use it.

This amp is supposed to replicate Slash's modded Marshall in Appetite for Destruction and his tone IS piercing. You also have to EQ the amp properly. Slash's tone is aggressive with lots of presence and mids.

I read Slash starts with his eq at 6 and then adjusts for the room…love this amp in AFD mode, will try cranking the gain on 34 mode…thanks for the tip…although I’m so happy with the AFD sound I wasn’t too bothered

The best amp on the planet that I've had for 10 years. I use it the same way and you don't need any pedals before the amp. Volume control max 8 and below this you get a wide range of tones.

75% of the gear demo's on KZbin are proof that people "don't know how to use it". The gear manufacturers to this day have never learned to have their own channel with pro's that know how to dial in their amp in properly, so off-set all the kids that don't know what they're doing, or play one style of music that amps like this were never made for, to begin with. But, I digress....you definitely set yourself apart. Well done.

😂😂 Thanks man, I appreciate the positive feedback. I enjoy making videos for fun and like to cover things the big channels aren't talking about. Thanks for following my Reverb store too. I've put a hard limit of 15 amps and 20 guitars on myself (what a punishment, I know). I hate having guitars and amps just sit in storage, so I've been selling the excess.

I own the AFD100, and I agree with your assessment. You need to dial everything in, but it’s not touchy or complicated. I have talked to other former owners who disliked #34, and honestly they were clueless. I manage to get super lower gain tones, like a Billy Gibbons, from that circuit. A big part is garbage in, garbage out. If you guitar has no natural sustain, shit pickups, that is what will come out. Also, one of the most critical settings on the amp EQ is the presence. It is not linear like modern marshals. Instead, it ramps up very quickly between seven and 10 and small changes. Make a big difference to tone. I actually had the local Marshall service center check it out because I thought there may be something a bit off with it, but they verified it works correctly and that’s just the way , the circuit works with the amp. Lastly, for anyone, wanting a real appetite, tone, try listening to the album on something that can reproduce it at high-quality. Like get a really good pair of headphones and listen to the total difference between Izzy and Slash. It’s supposed to be piercing because/needs to cut through the mix and bring that aggression. Part of that is his reproduction 59 less Paul, which has a natural scar to it if he used a regular JMP or plexi you just wouldn’t get the same tone.

AFD100 is a fabulous amp. People who say it's too bright, trebly etc doesn't know how a guitar should sit in the mix. If it has too much treble for you, solution is your tone knob and your picking. And since it's a Marshall, it loves poweramp distortion so you need to crank it! Amazing video and nice chops :)

I don't know if he leaves that always on or if he just uses it for solos. Could definitely have a dramatic effect on the tone. Slash isn't a huge pedal guy, though, so I'd guess it's a "sometimes on" not an "always on."

Awsome tone. I got the afd amp in video fill stack and i got a marshall vintage modern 100 watt head and matching cabs full stack. When i got my vintage modern was when they first was released to the public on sale new and got it for 800 dollars brand new with custom vintage modern cabs ots crazzy how cheap they use to he and then blew up to be super expensive great investment at age of 12 lol. Also if you are in a guns n roses tribute band or even a 80s style rock cover tribute band the afd 100 watt full stack or thr vintage modern stack is all yoy will ever need for an amazing tone its worth every penny for both amps

Great suggestions for the AFD. You have have some nice Jubilees there, how do you compare them to the AFD?
@eldoradoguitars6456
@eldoradoguitars6456 Жыл бұрын
The AFD mode on the AFD 100 has some commonalities with the Jubilee but they are definitely different sounds. The AFD mode is brighter than a Jubilee, with more top boost. It has more upper mids than a Jubilee, and more gain available. The Jubilee has the clean and rhythm clip modes, which are not on the AFD 100. The #34 mode is pretty different from a Jubilee. It's thinner, brighter and scratchier with a lot of cut. It takes up less sonic space than a Jubilee but cuts through a band mix better. A totally different sound and feel from a Jubilee. Of course, the Jubilee has the Clean and Rhythm Clip modes which the AFD does not have. The AFD is not a clean amp at all.

The knob on the back is the effects level. You can use it as a boost if nothing is in the loop. I think that’s the saturation you’re talking about. But it doesn’t have anything to do with the tube bias. I wasn’t using the boost at all in this video.
