I always remove the egg membranes. Once dry, they're pretty easy to peel off, and make the eggshells easier to grind, make a fine powder and don't smell.

The bubbles under the egg membrane are from the reaction of Calcium carbonate and heat. The heart causes the calcium carbonate to break down into carbon dioxide and calcium this causing the bubble under the membrane :3. BTW the main component of eggs is calcium carbonate.

I just add a few oyster shells to my tank. Figure they'll slowly disolve in the tank water and less effort. Plus snails can chew on if they like. There's a place in a nearby river where the ground is made of small clam & snail shells, I assume built up over centuries.. I figure I could also use those.

I made calcium with eggs about a year ago. I found the egg shells didn't stick as well as the calcium you buy at the store. I used a mortar and pestle as well as a food processor but I couldn't get it into a fine powder, it was more the size of sugar than powder. I just put it in my geckos calcium dish so there would be some use for it.

The crickets need to be thinner than the space between the gecko's eyes. I don't know about other morphs, but wild type leopard geckos have stripes as babies, and those fade into spots. Baby leopard geckos often scream and bite at first, and they're less accurate catching food. They're also more excited around food and more skittish.
@zacksanchez72268 жыл бұрын
they say that crickets should be the length aperture from there eyes but I would say from eyes to nostrils or bigger because geckos don't choose crickets in the wild they get what they can

Hi, I've had my gecko nearly a year now and have been feeding him occasional wax worms and crickets, but he refuses to eat meal worms, is there any way I can try and get him to eat meal worms? the quality of crickets has been bad at my local pet shop and they often all die in 2 days (with water jel and food for them). Also, is it normal for a leopard gecko to enjoy climbing? He seems to love crawling up my arm which I find awkward to get him down , but I recently got him a multi level platform hide which should enable him to climb more.
@jordantate_8 жыл бұрын
Wow I actually have the opposite problem. My Leo only eats mealworms. Just stop feeding yours entirely and only offer mealworms. It won't starve itself
@fionashepley4788 жыл бұрын
Hmm some geckos just don't like a certain insect. One of mine used to regurgitate mealworms. Maybe you could try to get crickets from somewhere else? Leopard geckos really need variety in their diet for a long and healthy life. Some other insects you could offer are locusts, Dubia roaches, silk worms, horn worms, etc.
@richrox7128 жыл бұрын
I'll give locusts a try then, anyone know how long they survive with that water jel and the cricket food?

I was just wondering, and chose this video to comment on because it was the latest vitamin related one, but should I keep a bowl of calcium in my tank? I know you've stated you aren't great with knowing all the supplement information, but I just wanted to ask a person like you whose had Leos for a long time. To give you some background info... I have a male 2 year old Leo and I feed him on mealworms. I use ZooMed Reptivite without D3 and ZooMed Calcium with D3 but I do have some extra non-D3 ZooMed Calcium that I don't use. So my question is, should I keep a small dish of the calcium with D3 or without D3 in my tank? Somebody told me that it's bad to do that and your Leo can get MBD from getting TOO much Calcium, and I am kinda confused. Thanks, and I hope Isla gets better soon!

@melissamuddle64596 жыл бұрын
Speaking as a chicken mom that regularly makes calcium from our eggs I would never use supermarket eggs for this purpose. In the US at least chemicals are fed to the chickens, chemicals are used to wash their eggs and chemicals are sprayed on clean eggs to keep them from going bad before they can be shipped and sold. You will not find anything on labels because they are not required to tell us. Boiling and low temp oven baking will not get rid of all of it. I know it's different in other parts of the world but I know a lot of your viewers are American. I'm so happy you did this video. I think our pets would be much healthier if we incorporated more natural solutions.
@ARIA31736 жыл бұрын
Melissa Jones Unlike the US, in the UK it is actually a legal requirement not to clean eggs or spray them with chemicals. Eggs are just cleaned with water and that’s it. I know in the US the opposite is a legal requirement and I’ve always found this interesting :)
@melissamuddle64596 жыл бұрын
Aria YT I know other countries have much better standards and practices than ours but I also know there are a lot of Americans watching this channel. That's why I mentioned it. Personally our family grows our own food and/or buys from others practicing organic/nonGMO farming but we are definitely in the minority.
