I've been doing this with turkey breast, pork loin, and ham for quite a while now. The worst thing about deli meat (outside of the sometimes questionable deli storage/handling) are the preservatives and fillers. Roasting and slicing your own meat eliminates the questionable and the bad. And you are SO right about it tasting better! I also make our own summer sausage and both chicken, ham, and bologna using a meat press. They aren't overly expensive, and the savings has been worth it. Great video!

@@FraggleRockFever There are a great many recipes/how to videos to choose from. You can use either a loaf pan or a meat press (the meat press gives you the traditional round shape), or just roll into logs wrapped tightly before baking or cooking. I used a loaf pan for years and only recently bought a pair of meat presses because they were on sale. You can make plain bologna, pickle loaf, pimento loaf, etc.

I did enjoy this recipe. I was born in 1942 in Indiana. Grandma and Grandpa had a home outside of a small little town. Mother and Daddy and me and my 2 sisters lived close by. Grandma and Grandpa raised Chickens and had a large garden. Mother and daddy had a big garden also. We all worked hard canning and freezing. Grandma would clean and dress chickens and also sold eggs .The way you cook reminds me how grandma and Mother cooked. I always learn from you some good recipes. I Love your channel and check every day for another video and still have some to check out. 🥰

I love my vacuum sealer. When I make Mac and cheese I will freeze the left over in serving portions for my husband and I in the vacuum sealer. I will boil a pot of water and put the Mac and cheese bag in the boiling water to heat it up. It is boil in bag. You can do this with anything left over. When you reheat it ,it doesn’t dry out. I love the idea of a meat slicer. I think😮 I will look for one at yard this summer.

Hi Lori and Danny. It's really cold up here in Ky. it's 7 degrees at 8:30 p.m. and still dropping,it snowed a bit this afternoon. The deep south is getting snow🥶I bet they are really surprised. I hope all do well and stay safe and warm.I lived in Orlando,Fla. in the 80's and it frosted one year but no snow, and killed just thousands of oranges and citrus trees.They looked so sad,like skeletons. I guess it'll look bad this time,too😧. Extremes seem to be on the schedule for this year. I like the recipe and will keep it in mind next time I do a roast. Y'all take care,I love y'all. 💞🙏

Yum yum! For a church dinner on the grounds last year, I smoked a pork loin in our smoker with a homemade rub and sliced it thin (and I don't have a commercial slicer, just a knife!). It turned out great and the visiting preacher took several slices to go home with him! It had that nice smoke ring on the edge. I used Herbs de Provence in my rub, I think that tastes amazing on pork. Your video reminds me that I NEED to make that again! Our Publix has nice pork loin.

I really love your kitchen. I am trying to make and have lots of foods and spices and things put away. And am learning freeze drying versus canning. I am somewhat afraid of canning. I did try canning when I was younger with my uncle, he was a cook for the army back in the day. So he was good with food period. He taught me how to cook things . .But he was very good at canning. I am not so sure I would do it as safely as everyone else seems to.
@WhippoorwillHoller11 күн бұрын
Canning can be a little nerve wracking, but I understand wanting to learn.
@cynthiafisher990711 күн бұрын
Canning jams and pickles and fruit is not dangerous. Botulism will not grow in higher acid foods, so you don’t need to be afraid of canning those. The worst that could happen is they could ferment or mold, which wouldn’t hurt you and you would be able to tell if they did, so wouldn’t eat them.
