It's actually understandable why people ask to join hermitcraft. It's because how good of a community you are, and they just want to experience it by themselves by playing with you. Unfortunately, Hermitcraft is kind of a private and small community it would be almost impossible to join it. However, being inspired by it to make your own content is truly the way to go.

The problem I have is just I don't have friends to play with, I don't really like singleplayer because I don't get motive, friends give me a motive to do things, I don't want to recreate hermitcraft, but my friend group are the type of people that want wars, griefing, plugins, which is understandable, I just like chilling with friends playing with them and having fun, not them joking around about certain attributes of others or how good people are at something, I just want people that are willing to put in work and effort and I don't know anyone personally that's willing to do that, all they wanna do is build a wall and a few dirt huts and say, WE FiGHT NOW, no if there is war, I want there to be a proper reason behind it, I just want people to play with, hell, I'd love to just play with one other person and get to know them so well that I could call them my best friend, I would love to just continuously play on a world, but I know noone that can fulfill this

This is the right response I think. HermitCraft isn’t just some all-star server, although all of its members are well-known on KZbin. It’s a group of friends that got together on a private server to play together and they just happened to become one of the most well-known SMPs. I would never ask to join because I don’t personally know anyone from the server and therefore am not any of their friends. Why would they want to add anyone they don’t know a thing about to the server? I have the same kind of sentiment for my own server. I play it with friends only and would probably deny any request to join unless I know you well. It’s “my own HermitCraft” to say it as this video puts it, and personally I like that much more. I get to forge my own path through the KZbin algorithm.

To be fair, I think a lot of those people that want to join Hermitcraft are somewhat awkward children and teens who don't have many friends that play minecraft(or other videogames) or in general. Not saying that to make fun of anyone, I really mean that. When you don't have anyone to enjoy a game with you start to fantasize about what it would be like to be part of that group you watch all the time on KZbin and they'll become desperate enough to ask to join them even if they don't really believe that they'll get in anyway.
@commentingcommenter1230
@commentingcommenter1230 3 жыл бұрын
A great way to bridge this gap is to have a combination of both friends and people you don't know. I've been playing on a private server recently, and while I know about 4 other members, the rest are people I do not know. By combining friend groups with others and playing games, you get to interact and befriend many new people!

I wanted to be a ‘hermit’ years ago. I had this whole plan put together. Make videos, become popular, get the hermits attention and be invited to join. After the first like 16 episodes, it just sucked all the fun out the game. So instead I found a server and my own group of people. Xisuma is right, do your own thing, your version. Don’t sit around waiting for something to maybe happen.

I think a lot of newer and younger viewers get the false impression that Hermitcraft is some kind of ultra-elite group, when in reality it's just a group of good friends who incidentally have had varying degrees of virality in online pop culture. No matter what direction their YouTubing and streaming careers go, they're ultimately just a bunch of friends having fun together. And that's something we all can build for ourselves if we don't have it already.

After all some Mindcrack members joined Hermitcraft so there's obviously a difference that convinced them to join the Hermitcraft. I see Hermitcraft as an SMP of good friends. Of course everyone on the Server makes videos out of it but I think if you gather some friends it'll always be possible to make "your own Hermitcraft" in one way or another.

Plus most kids are just gonna watch the main videos, not livestreams or clips on a 3rd channel like this, so it's pretty easy for them to miss these types of explanations if they aren't old enough to figure it out on their own in the first place

Fun fact watching hermitcraft has been the inspiration to keep working on a really big mural I’ve been doing. It’s really detailed and tedious but it’s nice to listen to other people do tedious work and laugh the entire time, it keeps the mood light and makes me want to keep at it rather than seeing it as too big and overwhelming of a project....I’m also a professional painter for context and I still get discouraged at times because it’s a kinda lonely profession so listening to other people tackle large tasks with a jovial attitude makes mine not feel so large and overwhelming

"Either be the best or fail in the most spectacular way" I guess if I were to give advice (1) If your friends aren't as enthusiastic as you are, look for a Community SMP Server, there are some, for instance (ik this looks so much like a self-promo, which in a way it is) I play on Dreamcraft and literally anyone rn can join and be whitelisted! (I won't put too much details on the SMP I'm playing on) (2) Make KZbin content, even if you can't make it as professional as the pros! Everyone starts somewhere, if you can't speak, can't edit, it all depends on you to make the first step and start *learning*! The more you create, the better you will get! If you never stop learning and improving, of course (3) Don't be demotivated by the low amount of views or sub count on your channel, instead, find the joy in making it! Personally, I have the mindset where becoming a big KZbinr someday is more of a dream than a necessity. Do it for fun! That's the most important thing, enjoy creating the content that you make! If not, what's the point of creating content in the first place? I guess that's all from me, I'm open to any feedbacks/comments from anyone of you who read this comment. Lastly, cheers!

I understand X is broadening the create something thing, but I feel like many people here still want to be part of an SMP. If you want to be part of an SMP, but aren't sure how to setup a server and feel that you aren't knowledgeable and won't try, you can do it. For a server, you will first need a computer that will run 24/7(or at least whenever you want the server to be up). A computer I recommend is a Raspberry Pi (get one with at least 4 GB or RAM or more). Once you have a raspberry pi, install Raspberry Pi OS lite (there are various tutorials for this online, many will call it Raspbian because the name changed). Then, connect the Raspberry Pi to power, connect a keyboard, and connect a monitor. Login with the default username and password or "pi" and "raspberry" respectively. Once you are logged in, you should see a prompt onscreen that says something like "pi@raspberrypi:~$". From here, type "sudo raspi-config" and press enter to open a configuration screen. In the configuration screen, enter networking options, add a WiFi network, enter the network name as the ssid, and then enter the password. Next, select back, then select boot options. Select the "Desktop / CLI" option, and select "Console autologin". Select back, then interfacing options. Select SSH, then select yes. Select back, then finish. You have now allowed ssh access to your raspberry pi, meaning you can access this console from your own computer on your home network. To find out the internal IP address, necessary to do this, type "hostname -I". Write down the set of numbers separated by dots. Now, you can type in "sudo shutdown now" to shutdown your raspberry pi. After you have shut down the pi, disconnect the monitor and keyboard. Disconnect the power, then reconnect it to start the Pi again. To access the Pi, now we need to use SSH(note, you can only connect to the pi via SSH if you are on the same WiFi/wired network (connected to the same router)). If you are using a Mac/Linux, you can search for the terminal app, then open it and type "ssh pi@xx.xx.xx.xx", where "xx.xx.xx.xx" should be replaced with the internal IP address you wrote down earlier. If you are using windows, you need to download an app to access SSH. I recommend downloading PuTTY(putty.org/), and using that to access ssh by filling in "pi" as the username, and the internal IP address you wrote down earlier. now, you should be back in the raspberry pi command prompt. First, we will make a new directory for the Minecraft server. To do this, type "mkdir mcserver" and press enter. Nothing will show up in response to this, but the directory should exist now. To access it, type "cd mcserver" and press enter. Before we download the minecraft server software, we need to download java. To do this, type "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y" to update the software on the pi. This may take some time. Next, type "sudo apt install openjdk-11-jdk -y" to actually install java. This may take some time. Now, we need to download the minecraft server software. Go to www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/server, then copy the link for the .jar file for the latest version of minecraft. Then, on the pi type "wget YOURLINKGOESHERE", so for 1.16.3, it would be, "wget launcher.mojang.com/v1/objects/f02f4473dbf152c23d7d484952121db0b36698cb/server.jar". Next, type "ls", to list the files and look for a server.jar file. Then, type "java -jar server.jar" to try to run the server. This will generate an EULA file that you have to agree to. Type "nano eula.txt", then change the "false" to "TRUE". To save the file, do Ctrl + O, then do Ctrl + X to exit. Now, try to run "java -jar server.jar" again. This may take some time. Once the screen says "Done" in one of the lines, you can try to join, but only on your own network. To try to join, try to connect to the internal IP address you wrote down earlier. You could probably join, but you aren't done yet. Next, you need to download something called screen to allow you to run the server in the background. Type "stop" to stop the server. Now, type "sudo apt install screen -y" Once this is done, type "screen" to start a screen session. Inside, type "java -jar server.jar". Now, you can detach from the session by pressing Ctrl + A, then releasing those keys and pressing D. There is a way to make the server start automatically so you don't have to manually do this every time the server is shut off, but I don't have time to write that in this comment. Now that you have done this, you can exit SSH by typing "exit". Now your sever should remain on when you exit SSH, but will not be accessible from outside your network. To allow it to be accessible, you need to edit your router settings. Open a brower and enter your router’s IP address, which varies depending on the network, but is commonly "192.168.1.1","192.168.0.1","192.168.1.0",or"192.168.0.0". Inside of the router settings, navigate to the port forwarding section(this varies on the router), and add a new entry to forward port 25565 to your Pi's internal ip address. Your friends should now be able to connect via your network's external IP address, which you can find by googling "what's my IP" while in your network.

Reminds me of an episode of _Star Trek: Deep Space 9_ where Jadzia Dax is talking to a trill initiate about becoming joined with a symbiont. The initiate, Arjin, has no personal dreams or goals and views joining as a golden ticket to a future with limitless possibilities. Jadzia tells him that, while the influence of the symbiont is strong, the host must be capable of balancing their own instincts against that of the symbiont. If the host is unable to, the symbiont's personality will overwhelm the host. Hermitcraft is similar. While the tight-knit community leaves a big impression on new members, each member must have their own identity to bring to the table so they can stand on their own. If they don't, they will get drowned out by the big personalities of the other members.

I think the reason people want to join Hermitcraft is to interact with you all, because you all have fun and are interesting and are talented, and these people don't have that in their lives. If they did, they wouldn't be asking to join. All these people have is parasocial relationships with creators like you all, and they see it as friendship, when it's really not. They know all sorts of things about you all, and they feel like they're buddy buddy with you now... but you don't know them. It's all one-way. It's part of the human condition. If we have a void, we try to fill it with whatever we can that even sort of fits. The people who request to join Hermitcraft have the void of friendship and a creative outlet that they need to have filled. So they go to ask their Hermit "friends" how to join them and no longer be one-way. But they don't seem to understand that there are MILLIONS of other people doing the same thing to y'all. Parasocial relationships are insidious and sometimes become toxic. I'd love to be a Hermit, because it would give me a built-in audience that could view my stuff. It'd be a good stepping stone to actually making it in the world. But I know that's never going to happen, and I would never ask. I'm just sad that I don't have any friends, so I can't jump-start anything like this myself, so I'll just always be on the outside looking in.

it is so better if people would make a server of their own w/ their friends bc in that way, knowing them gives you the chance to spend time and share your humor and way of comedy w/ your group of friends

After watching this I feel very inspired to start my own minecraft server. Sadly my friends don't play minecraft. I don't know if there is anyone reading through the comment section 9 months after the video was released but if you do have the same problem and want to meet some new people to play minecraft with I'd definetly be interested!

Thank you, Xisuma. I needed to hear this right now. I will continue doing what I enjoy most, and hopefully I will find people who will enjoy my work, too. Good luck to you and the other Hermits. You all honestly inspire me to continue to follow my dreams and hopes. May God bless you, and may you have good fortune.

Thank you for this x, I have been doing small streams but people don’t really watch them and I had considered quitting but I watched this video and made up my mind. I’m going to keep trying !

X, this was so inspiring (intentional or not), and even if I’d heard the “history of hermitcraft”/ the 99 questions vid, it’s always nice to hear “how to join” because I love you’re passion about this, how even if you haven’t been actively recruiting you still want people to try.

Solid point! I think another good video that I know id enjoy is talking about what the recruitment process is actually like for hermitcraft. Less in a lectury way and more of a behind the scenes maybe! I'm glad you made this point though

Hermitcraft S7 is what inspired me to create my own Smp, Thingy, Nearly a year ago. I am very thankful for giving the idea to create it, as it is still going today with a variety of players. I wish that Hermitcraft will continue growing to give inspiring ideas to others.

Hey Xisuma, I decided to follow your advice, and with some friends and family I started up the MicroSMP server, (well actually its just a world cause the person who made it dosnt want to make servers) Anyway, it's been my favorite series to create on YT and I'm only 2 episodes in!

The problom is, everyone listened to your advice 3 years ago and now every server ia a chestmonster of chests with signs asking to exchange diamonds with netherrack. Everything is hermitcraft now.

With a few friends, about 5/6, we started our own server called Quaracraft (from quarantine.. heheh). Some started recording and livestreaming and it's so much fun. Thanks for this X! Motivates us even more!

This is really good advice! I enjoy watching Hermitcraft but would likely never be interesting to watch myself. I just like playing because it gives me a way to connect with family and friends and is also really soothing for my depression and anxiety. I had a passing notion about making an SMP called Mindcraft with the aim of creating an uplifting mental health community and possibly even themes along that, i.e. builds like you're inside the brain and mind, especially since the nether already looks pretty brainy and the end definitely seems vast and void like the mind. Anyways, rambling aside, what you're saying has me feeling inspired! Thanks for sharing.
