This is the best video I have seen for making kombucha. I just made my first batch with a Scoby I purchased from Amazon. It tastes like GT's plain kombucha bottle! I want to know how to make a gingerade bottle- any ideas? Thank you again for this great video!

Put your kombucha in an old GT bottle with a few pieces of fresh ginger for a second ferment (3-4 days). You may need to add a little extra sugar (to taste) to get it to be fizzy...

Hi from Sydney Australia...thanks for taking the time to post your clip, its informative and to the point...lets hope we can spread the SCOBY word! I have Oolong and White Peony tea SCOBYs growing now, the white tea takes the longest to form a SCOBY and green tea ferments the fastest. Im just about start my first Jun Kombucha SCOBY, grown from only green tea and honey. The SCOBY takes a lot longer to form but the honey enables different types of good microrganisms to grow.Lets see how we grow.

Growing Together Honey?? Is that good for Kombucha? Unfiltered honey contains a powerful substance called propolis, nicknamed bee penicillin, which is made from the resin that oozes from trees. Bees mix this resin with their saliva to create an antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal ‘wallpaper’ to ensure disease cannot enter their hives. Traces of this brown substance break off into the raw honey to make it naturally antibacterial. Bees also add the enzyme glucose oxidase to honey. When this comes into contact with moisture, it releases low levels of antiseptic hydrogen peroxide, which can kill bacteria but does not damage skin tissue.

a SCOBY is an acronym for Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast
@moonmomma197 жыл бұрын
the scobys are not needed to start to brew. It's all abt the starter tea.. .you can start brewing without a scoby...it is just a by product.....not using enough starter tea eill get you mold!!!

Now I have always been told amd read that after the kombucha has been fermenting you should never use metal with it...
@DanielinLaTuna9 жыл бұрын
Tiffany, stainless steel is okay. Other metals, like copper and aluminum are reactive and should not be used.

@TheKingsRoost10 жыл бұрын
I use a no-rinse cleanser, which is powdered hydrogen peroxide. You can also use an iodine solution. Very important to sterilize so you don't unwanted bacteria and contaminants in there!

+Lucy Alejandre Lot of brewers, as do i, use bleach (chlorine) just rince with heavily diluted solution and let sit for a minute! Then a quick rinse with tap water

+Lucy Alejandre If you have a food steamer you can use that.

Lucy Alejandre Our culture is SO "srerile" oriented, but if you wash the bottles in your sink with Dawn, rinse really well, and drain you will be fine. Does anyone think that thousands of years ago the original Kombucha makers had a "srerile" environment. Just CLEAN is all that is needed. Do not fret over the sterile crap; and just use clean equipment.
