Hi Jo after watching your other tutorials and learning how to stich I have made myself a Knife sheaf and sheaths for half round and round head Knives Great Tip for the welt I actually went to the trouble of cutting the shape which needs quite a large peace of leather. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us

Wow, Jo, you blew my mind with that Welt. I just traced the shape of my Head knife sheaths when I made them, and simply offset the inside measurement with dividers. I am so going to use this trick in the future. Perhaps I should make one for my Doldokki quarter round knife, and use this technique.

@@JHLeather Hi Jo, with the Barnsley knives do you find you have to do a lot of prep work to get them sharp in the first instance, or is it just a matter of maintaining. I want to purchase one but I am not great at sharpening and don't wanna wreck one 😉

So with the ones I got about 4/5 years ago, then they did need a bit of work to get right. I have a video on knife sharpening.....kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJyoiYhjh76loMk

@@JHLeather I’ve been looking at the Barnsley’s from Abbey England. It looks to have quite a bit larger blade than the one Dennis made for me. If I do end up buying a Barnsley,I’ll definitely have to cut the handle to make it shorter. Dennis made my handle according to my hand measurements,as I have really small hands with short,fat stubby fingers Lol

@@ceilingunlimited5073 it might be worth contacting Barnsley directly, they make the handles you never know they might offer a service.

I'm halfway through designing and making the first of four different shaped covers for my knives. I didn't think to make the welt out of a strip and, instead, actually cut it to shape, which was a bit fiddly. I'll try your method on the next one to compare the finish.
@JHLeather
@JHLeather Жыл бұрын
The thin strip works really well, it can get a bit fiddly on really tight curves
