I’ve built some of these out of pvc definitely work outside or with an industrial shop vent and a mask with the pink and yellow bio voc filter. PVC puts off some nasty fumes that will cause brain damage and lung damage very quickly…. Alternatively polycarbonate tubing is much safer to use and almost as durable. I would still work in a ventilated area or with a mask but you have less risk of brain damage or blindness or lung failure with it.

I have been wanting to create a set of columns, from a 3d print or resin cast, that look like they are made of natural crystal growths. The goal is to have them lit from beneath by hidden dmx lights of some kind so that I can control the color and lights of them from my stream deck. It's a project that your videos inspired and I had been struggling to find an stl file for a large crystal. It's so amazing that your video had pretty much exactly what I was looking for!!

I’m doing a project for college and this looks really useful (not to mention awesome as hell) Thanks for the tutorial! I just had one question, do you have an alternate method to creating a crystal for the tip? I unfortunately don’t have access to a 3d printing machine but I’d be willing to try whatever to get this thing created!
@Atmoseeker
@Atmoseeker Жыл бұрын
One thing that might work is a method I used to make some ice formations. Grab some plastic from a blister pack (or something similar), and finding a decent rock the size you want for the crystal. Then warm up the plastic with a heat gun and try and form it around the rock. It's tricky because you have to get it quite hot (use gloves) but could do the trick. If you had access to a vacuum former, that'd be a fancier way of doing a similar thing.

@Atmoseeker
@Atmoseeker 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! A lot of the potion bottles are finding cool bottles from the craft store or dollar store, then using either food die, or acrylic ink to tint water inside them. In some cases I use some Led strips or colored led tealights placed behind them to make "glowing" potions

Cyanide gas is a poor start, but the finish is brilliant. And you clearly didn't die, so... yeah. Really nice addition to the atmosphere
@Atmoseeker
@Atmoseeker 2 жыл бұрын
Heating a lot of materials often causes fumes (a lot of crafters melt and cut foam) but I think the danger always comes if you burn the material and see black smoke (foam included). I don't know about cyanide, it's hard to find that specific info, but all the more reason to wear protective gear when working with materials. Heating and warping PVC pipes is a common method amongst haunters and cosplay artists.

I always like your videos. This looks great. I do have a question however. You went through a lot of trouble to make plastic and paint look like wood. Why not just start with a wooden staff?
@Atmoseeker
@Atmoseeker 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You absolutely could start by using a regular stick. The problem is that perfect stick isn't easy for everyone to find. Plus you could use that method to make different kinds of "wooden" props in a variety of shapes.

I see this is an "old" vid, but just be careful around heating PVC. The fumes he talks about is hydrogen chloride gas, which when mixed with water/steam/moisture makes hydrochloric acid. And you dont want that anywhere near you!

@Atmoseeker

Haha absolutely! This pvc pipe approach is a prop making technique that can allow you to make some really interesting shapes and gives you that control. We don't have European/American style forests here in Australia (it's more bush/scrub lands), which can make it really hard to find the perfect wizarding stick.
