Bought a can of Flex Seal and made 6 pads out of 1 can about 8" in diameter, 1/4" thick. The bounce response is so great, you have to be careful not to knock your eye out. $30 per can but comes out to $5 per pad surface, plus scrap plywood.

Marching bass? I imagine you could get a 14" long piece of wood maybe 1.5"x1.5" thick and glue one of these pads to each end, then contrive some sort of stand or harness for it. Maybe drill a hole in it and stick in a dowel that's the thickness of the top part of a cymbal stand so you can use it in a cymbal stand.
@calatwork73084 жыл бұрын
If you're using a kick pedal, from what I hear (I only got into drums during this quarantine), you can use an old mattress to beat the head into, and apparently it doesn't feel too far off from a real kick drum.

Good stuff. I found anything less than 1/4” or thicker neoprene rubber was worthless. All my sticks did was push through the thinner stuff and I’d be hitting wood. One good thing about this thinner material is you can layer cotton batting under it for a pad that has very little bounce for muscle memory work. Great DIY stuff here, man!

Sanding a little bit the cutting board also can make it stick better. I havent tried this, so I'm not talking from an experience, but the down side might be the bounce that you get. I have used a bascket ball between my legs and the bounce It's adjustable with the air in it and the pressure that yo aply with your legs. Worth trying if you practice at home and have a ball layig arround.

Want a practice drum pad for under $5? See if your local dollar store or online store has Silly Putty egg -- double or giant size ... Or buy a few for $1.25. Yes. This non-newtonian fluid makes a perfect practice drum pad. Just flatten the putty out to about 1/4" thick patty and slap it on a table or chair. Take it with you on the road with your sticks. The egg makes a nice compact travel case, and saves space of you have a small room or apartment. Done.
