Thanks for the tutorial. I was able to refurbish a TMH Flexpak 7.2 v used with a Tony Hawk Skateboard RC toy. Apparently the battery pack is no longer manuals yet and I didn’t trust the ones on EBay. I used solid copper wire and flattened it with a hammer for the conductive strips between batteries. The case is a pain on this particular battery pack, but it can be done.

Hi Adam, thanks for this tutorial - quite helpful. Just one important question - how do you open (dismantle) the plastic pack. It seems it is glued and I am afraid not to brake it? Thanks again. DP

So, I want to ask something... Is there a method to open without damage the covers? Something to get the old ones to replace?...
@griffo54 жыл бұрын
You have to break it to replace it, ill be posting a video up soon on how to do it. And converting to nahm.

Hi many thanks for sharing your knowledge through video however, I have seen many videos on this topic but none of them explained how do we charge those packs which power adapter to use. is it ok to use any 12v power adapter for charging the batteries or we need specific ones. all these questions remained unanswered and kinda discouraging to moving forward towards making a battery pack. it would be really great if you can answer them either here or by extending your video for this topic.

Hello! It's a great tutorial, thank you. But I have a problem: I can't open the battery to replace the inner cells! How is it opened? Glue? Clips?
@AdamDIY9 жыл бұрын
Almost always the case is glued shut. You will need to carefully split it open and then glue it back together when you are done.
@RainBringer9 жыл бұрын
I've tried to open it with a knife (since the gap between the halves is too thin for a screwdriver), but the plastic breaks where I push the knife and it doesn't seem to do the work
@RainBringer9 жыл бұрын
+Rain Bringer I've managed opening it. With a very thin and heated knife I've carefully melted the glued stitch between the two halves.

Just tried it with 1000 mah IKEA batteries and it works but I feel the power is reduced, I might try with higher mah, didn't solder anything just used aluminium foil for the connections
@illynoizzz8 жыл бұрын
Why do you suggest to use only the same Ni-Cd batteries? IMHO 1. Ni-MH are much better because of no "memory effect" 2. You can assemble new battery pack using batteries with much more capasity: Sanyo (Panasonic) 2500 mAh or Ansmann 2850 mAh for instance instead of these ones noname 600 mAh. Just imagine, you can increase the running time up to 5 times :) What do you think? P.S. I got more simple case. My son's Niko car is powered by 4*AA batteries, so it's 4.8V. So I bought the Xiaomi 10000 mAh powerbank which supplies with stabilized 5v. Then I solder the USB cable to +/- on the car and made a place for this powerbank inside the cockpit. So I was amazed when my son played all day long with this car and then my wife also chaged her smartphone in the evening also from this powerbank. LOL
@TonyTapay8 жыл бұрын
I imagine he's using NiCd batteries because the pack goes with a charger that is built specifically for NiCd batteries.
@illynoizzz8 жыл бұрын
Tony Tapay take a closer look at typical ni-cd, ni-mh chargers specs: i.e. Lacrosse BC-700, Maha Powerex, etc. They have pretty much the same charging logic for both of these types. So it doesn't matter for a charger what to charge: ni-cd or ni-mh.
@TonyTapay8 жыл бұрын
That's good to know.
@johndow19748 жыл бұрын
Not entirely true, there are differences, e.g. cut off V delta is different for once (5mV vs 10mV as I recall). Also Ni-Mh are more fragile when it comes to overcharging. batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_nickel_metal_hydride You may still give it a go...
@Manu-Mi76 жыл бұрын
You know nothing about batteries. Higher amperage force to charge longer and higher.Nikko charger is not build for ni-mh and those batteries weight much more than ni-cd

Hi there thanks for your video. Can you please tell me where I can fund this small welder you used and what is the actual name for them? Is it copper cable you used? It was clearly under-stable for one part you welded but other side of the battery is not clear I mean how did you connect all these 5 batteries?
@AdamDIY11 жыл бұрын
The welder is called a "Soldering Iron" and the copper is actually solder wick. But you can just use any cheap wire, I just had that laying around at the time. You just connect the positive side to the negative side of the next battery. So instead of having all of the batteries pointed the same direction, you need to flip every other battery.

Nice vide question.. I have a nikko vaporizer.. it uses the nikko 6v battery pack.. but after some year, it could only hold charge for a few minutes.. so I opend up the box and put in standard alkaline batteries, hoping to also get a little extra speed.. but the car just moved slower than before, almost stood still.. so I got muself some new Duracell 1200mah rechargeble and put them in the pack insted.. a little better result, but car just moves really slow... Any idea why that is?

It's not a good idea to heat up the batteries, is what I was told.
@CheapCheerful2 жыл бұрын
@@AdamDIY From what I can tell, soldering these little NiCDor NiMH batteries isn't a problem for personal use, so long as you don't linger too long with the heat. The reason spot welding is preferred is that people are usually connecting 18650 / Lithium batteries together which die very quickly with heat (or much worse... boom!).

No need to open the pack with a hammer, LOL! Glues are chemical bounds, that can be dissolved by the appropriate 'chemical' (some by water...) For this one I first tried rubbing alcohol (great for loosening hot glue bonds), which didn't seem to work (being an impatient guy). I then tried Tamiya Lacquer Thinner (search Tamiya 87077 on eg eBay). After a couple of minutes, a little force with a knife split the case, without any damage. Otherwise a great guide, tx!
