I’ve found that to get 60% of the body done in a few min is to run three long strips of drywall tape side by side straight down the middle from the front bumper to the rear bumper. Then all you have to work on is the sides. It also helps to use a hot glue gun to tack down areas that don’t wanna stick.

Great howto - thanks for taking the time to share the process, and I particularly enjoyed the fact that you show the challenging parts as opposed to a "clean" edit where it looks easy and simple. I would think that a spray adhesive such as 3M 77 or 90 applied to the body before the drywall tape would prevent it from lifting. I've never tried this exact process but have used it with very good results in other applications and it works very well.

Hi Kevin, I just wanted you to know that I did use 3M spray adhesive instead of shoe glue, and it absolutely works. Two coats, and the body is so much tougher, and much less weight than shoe glue. I spray part of the car, then rub it in, then spray more, and rub that in. You can only rub it in for about 10 sec. then it gets too tacky. I put my fan blowing on it while using my heat gun to help dry it. After 5 minuets, I gave it the second coat. So much easier and quicker than smashing shoe glue into the drywall tape. I used my heat gun on every piece of drywall tape to help it mold and stick to the body. I did use hot glue if an end was coming lose. I've done two cars in two nights after work. The Rustler and the TRX 4X4. Still need to do another Rustler, E-Revo 2.0, MAXX, and then my new XMAXX. The next one I do I'll try to get it on my KZbin page.

Drywall tape holds the body togeather after it has cracked. Shoegoo and tape doesn't prevent cracking.

I did the same with my RC body shell. I applied the tape then applied a dot of super glue on the corners of the tape. Make the glueing process easy.

I use super 77 spray adhesive. Lay out your mesh drywall , a VERY light spay of the super 77, apply to inside of body, then apply your shoe-goo.

We use this process but usually after a crack or break develops and is best way I’ve found to repair. Something use gorilla tape. Tho works well but in racing we have to watch weigh but I can see for bashing protecting whole body is good ideal

I just got a body for my Traxxas Revo 3.3 and I’m going to be painting it and using this type of drywall tape to make the body firm and then instead of using sugar I think I’m going to use a two-part epoxy with a few lite coats.

Did my maxx yesterday. Holly fumes. Gonna use gorilla construction adhesive clear in the future almost no smell and it comes in a calk gun like tube. Wish I would have done this like I did my big rock. Stinky maxx for weeks here we go.

The biggest issue with doing this is the dirt that sticks to the inside of the body from all the drywall tape and shoe glue! That s*** does not come off!

Word of advice: do *not* use Shoe Goo 2 as it does not stick to the body well, and dries much thicker, and is therefore much heavier than Shoe Goo 1. I did 2 whole bodies in Shoe Goo 2 and was able to peel them off in one piece. Shoe Goo 1 is also half the price of 2 if you buy the 110ml tubes. Also, do not mix Shoe Goo 1 and 2 on the same body as they do not stick to each other at all.

What about Barge Cement?... industrial shoe glue....it's what leather makers use making like gun holsters, saddles, shoes etc...it's extremely strong but not sure if lexan or polycarbonate bodys can take the chemical contact of the glue

I scanned the comments.... didn't notice mention of it. He is using Fibatape brand drywall tape. I heard him say several times that he doesn't know. its literally printed in the cardboard roll, on the inside of the tape. I had to scan for both sides, but its clear it says fiba - tape.

Kev I am also doing this it’s awesome I broke my slash body in 16 pieces 2yrs ago and still now running same overkill body. I saw lots video and worst I saw was put lots of glue lmao mesh flot 1st try 1st bad. 2nd body I did it like you doing it and was amazing. However I decided try another way on a 3rd body both same product. Try it and maybe doing a video from it cuz so much easier and never saw one this way. So here it is : clean body than small sections at time Shoe Goo light amount 1st not need be perfect and wait 2-5min before you apply the mesh. Let dry all body and now this mesh is stuck to body and just perfect to apply Shoe Goo the amount you desire and won’t move or float. I do apply the 1st light glue with gloves so can feel just put enough to make mesh site on glue. Will help you with corners and faster process to apply it. Cheers

We used the same but with out the glue ..also used a air dryer to get it to mode better ...on our new rc wltoys 144010 we got today 07.11.23 that we seen on Claire's channel (TALBOT Tested & Approved!! Wltoys 144010) that u couldn't damaged it we used Gorilla tape and used air dyer to get in the cracks and corners plus ordered the DUMBO RC X6 Transmitter with three X6DC Receiver Gyro just getting back into rc after 40 plus years because of your channel and Claire's and one or two others that u hang out with

Fiba tape an e6000 gr8 an e6000 cheaper glue very good and you can buy e6000 spray glue i use that lot quicker to apply just pop outside in garden an do there on sunny day an leave outside to dry

Would this method work on a cardboard helmet? I am trying to make it a little bit stronger and dont want to use resin and fiberglass. The base would be cardboard, on the outside I would use what you call Bondo to make it smooth and i need something stronger on the inside. I tried paper mache and its just too much work, i tried fiberglass and its gets messy and at the end its to costly. I am searching all kind of methods

You don't need to. The shoe goo locks it in through all the holes in the tape. I've been using it for 10 years and I've never had any of mine come back up. This is a super old trick that's been around for forever and works super well. Just do in a well ventilated area bc the shoe goo stinks and is harmful if you inhale to much of it and can burn your eyes as well. Also spray adhesive could keep it from sticking properly so I wouldn't waste my time on that.

Look for removable paint! It's like rubberized undercoating for rc cars and can be peeled off and reapplied. Perfect for underside of the body.
