It is definitely easier and works great when sharing your videos through KZbin. Only time I'd really use that actual 21:9 ratio is if I was going to submit my project to a film festival. Though another way you could do both is to format it in 21:9, export that as your video, then insert that video into a new 16x9 project. Then you could share the same video in both formats for different sharing destinations.

If you shot Full HD Footage of 1920x1080, then you'll have 16:9 to start with. You'd need to change it to 1440x1920 in order to have a 3:4 aspect ratio. That's a little unusual though. The normal would be 4:3 which would be a 1920x1440.

Yeah, they upload without bars, but it'll still show bars if you are watching on a 16:9 screen. If you are doing 4:3 @ Full HD then you'd need to set your project to 1920x1440. Or for 4K you'd do 3840x2880.

Question - what if I record footage in 3840x1646 but then when I edit it in post, I export it in 5120x2160 (4K 21x9 resolution) for KZbin upload purposes? I realize exporting in higher resolution doesn't actually add more pixels, so my footage would still be in 3840x1646 but exporting in full 4K 21x9 would make KZbin recognize it as a 21x9 aspect ratio AND would retain the original quality of the footage without cropping anything. In my case, it's a capture of a game, so I am able to capture 3840x2160 game that is playing in ultrawide mode with black bars at the top and bottom which in post I would delete making my footage effectively 3840x1646. Or would I be better off retaining the black bars and exporting in 4K 16x9? My concern is that people watching on an actual widescreen monitor would not be able to get the video to go true full screen and instead would have footage with black bars on all four sides because KZbin would essentially recognize the black bars as part of the video...

You can upload the aspect ratio that you want, but if you watch on a 16:9 screen there will be black bars because 9:1 doesn’t conform to 16:9. You have to have a screen that’s 9:1 for it to not have bars. KZbin doesn’t show a 16:9 screen, it shows whatever aspect ratio the video was uploaded with.

Great Video, I saw this one and the other one about aspect ratios. Though I have question to ask. I'm trying to upload a 3440x1440 video to youtube, and I get horizontal black bars. I'm trying to edit my video to get rid of this problem, should I use the custom 3840x1646 UHD or 1920x823 resolution, or is there another resolution I should use specifically for 3440x1440?
@CamberFilmSchool4 жыл бұрын
I think there is a bit of a misconception about black bars on videos. It all depends on the screen you're using to watch the videos. If you format a video aspect ratio the fit a smartphone, then when you watch it on a computer there will be black bars on the top and bottom. But if you format it for a computer, then there will be black bars on the sides when watching on a smartphone. It just depends on which you like better.
@MathiasCzR014 жыл бұрын
Ah I see. I thought it was possible to adapt a video resolution so it can be viewed full screen with no bars on a 16:9 and on a 21:9 computer screen. Earlier I customized a video resolution from 3440x1440 to 3840x2160 to alleviate my problem, albeit it bit stretched.

I’m a lil confuse , I see a lot of ppl doing 1920 = 800 . Why is yours a lil higher ?

Because I’m right... 😂 Its because most people just like easy numbers to remember. If you divide 1920 by 21 and then multiply that number by 9 (which is how you’d come up with the vertical pixel height) you’ll get 822.857143 which I rounded up to 823. But 800 is just easier to remember than 823. However you are a little wider if you use 1920x800 because that’s actually about a 21.6:9 aspect ratio (not like anyone would really notice though).

Most people nowadays watch video on the phone and phones are small. You should try to fill all the screen with your content (using the 16:9 aspect ratio) instead of filling the screen with black bars with your 21:9 aspect ratio.
@CamberFilmSchool3 жыл бұрын
Ok. I use 2:1 for most videos now and it fills more than 16:9 on new smartphones. I have a video on that too. 😉

@@CamberFilmSchool The iPhone SE, which is the newest iPhone with touch ID, is 16:9.

What does 21:9 look like on a 18:9 device

It would have small black bars across the top and bottom of the screen.

21:9 in a vid not formatted for it?

@@CamberFilmSchool You know exactly what I'm referring to. Wasn't necessarily trying to be rude with the comment but yr reply is kinda silly
@CamberFilmSchool3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t watched this video in a long time so I wasn’t sure if there was something in it in particular that you are referring to. Or just because the video is in 16:9 format. It’s more difficult to show people how to do the fake 21:9 in a 16:9 project without it being in 16:9.
