Let's take a look at the whole picture. What ever country this was done in, they inhabitants dumped everything they didn't want into their own waterways. Food, feces, urine, toxic waste, dead animals, bikes, etc etc etc. Now someone comes along and cleans up all the waste, and removes the plastic....GREAT RIGHT? How about the inches, the feet of toxic goo that has polluted the water, polluted the soil under the water with years of debris, and toxic waste. What goos does it do when all they do is clean out the debris? Most of these waterways empty out into lakes, oceans, or both. Then the lakes die, and the ocean shores also die from all that toxic waste flowing into them. Fantastic they removed all the plastic, what about the rest of the filth that still poisons the waters every year. TOO LITTLE TOO LATE!

I LOVE these people!!! When I saw the person sorting different color bottle caps my jaw dropped. That level of work and detail that goes into it. Not just throwing the trash in a landfill but working very hard to understand the origins and bring responsibility back to the corporations responsible for creating the trash to begin with through gathering data. Also providing jobs to the local people give them income and creates a community of people that are more likely to care. Every video I watch tells me to like and subscribe and I rarely do. He never said to like and subscribe but I immediately did!! I am a trash picker where I live. I love people who are working to leave the world better than they found it but this is next level. Thank you so much for your work! Godspeed and many blessings to you!! ❤

And what about the soil below the water that must be contaminated at least several feet. That contamination STILL pollutes the water way even though they cleaned out all the trash. I can bet a year later those waterways will be filled with junk again. Lack of education, lack of proper resources to dispose of all the trash these people dump every day. SICKENING!

I was a part of a waterway cleanup here in Inda a few years ago. We just used the age old method of trapping different size debris using just fishing nets. Fishing nets are super strong the larger fish they have to catch. So we set up 4 points of cleanup. Large nets, Medium-large hole nets, medium nets, small to medium hole nets and small hole nets to catch all kinds sizes of debris at 500-750 meters on the river. Ofcourse, it was not a big cleanup, but we removed approximately 7-8 tonnes of waste and debris from the river. 2 ends of the net were sunk using stones and the other ends above the water were tied to trees or the truck that was to carry the debris. This only for the bigger nets since they get very heavy with all the trapped stuff.

The scanning plastic packaging to see the manufacturers that are contributing to the problem is a great idea because there is a need for packaging to be changed to compostable materials. Even if a consumer disgards waste responsibility there is way too much plastic garbage. At least you have the data to present to show the amount of their product' packaging is ending up in the waste stream. Metrics are so important.

@@BusterNoggins The government in that country would have to start to proper garbage disposal programs and have punitive fines for people and businesses that don't follow the rules. @TB-rp3ug they are responsible because in the end, there is nowhere for these single use plastics to go. Cannot even recycle them into other plastics. They are designed to be thrown away and buried in the landfill. Instead they can consider the full life cycle of such products and determine how they can change it to be biodegradable within a few months.

Amazing work! You and all the volunteers in Bali ROCK!!! I can't believe how bad it has gotten..I was there in the mid 1980's and noticed the alarming trend of mini blue clorox bottles (and of course, the chlorine) in the river from laundry but never imagined it would get this bad. I remember at the time feeling that a lot of the problem was that not too too long ago, everything that people used in Bali came from nature and was therefore bio-degradable. It takes a change in thinking to understand why we need to do things differently. Where I currently live in the USA, it's total devolution...it seemed like people were starting to "get" the litter problem way back in the 70's but instead of eradicating that behavior and demanding that packaging and our consumption patterns change, things have just gotten much worse. The city I live in is drowning in trash and nobody seems to care.

Something that we had back in the day here in the states was if you gathered glass bottles and tin cans, you could take them to specific stores or facilities and get paid per pound. Congratulations. This is the first group I have seen focusing on the river where the overwhelming majority of ocean pollution comes from. Well done Although focusing on the manufacturers is skipping over the people more directly responsible for where it ends up. Chances are the towns along the rivers don’t have adequate trash collection, or people are directly tossing their trash into the environment or both. That’s the target.

I know I’m super late to this, but I just found this video. I work in marketing for a pizza company in the US and setting up school fundraisers is honestly a great idea. I regularly set up dine-to-donates to help schools, PTOs, and non-profit organizations raise money and even if the initial impact is small, through continued fundraisers and marketing it can make a real difference. Marketing can be as small as reaching out through email personally. If the local schools can’t facilitate raising money for an outside company, I’d even look into tourism boards or tour guide companies. Capitalizing on the large tourist population could help you raise a decent amount to continue cleaning Bali’s waters. Tourists will definitely appreciate clean beaches, oceans, and rivers and may be willing to chip in to help! Keep up the amazing work!

Our country banned plastic shopping bags a few years ago. You either bring your own reusable bags or pay for paper bags with string handles. Most places have recycling bins at the house and people are encouraged to compost organic material. Pressure is put on companies to faze out plastic. Eg, McDonalds no longer use plastic straws or containers. Everyone needs to make an effort and go pick up some waste from rivers, beaches etc.

I’m very happy to see change taking place around the world. This, the ocean trash drift and numerous beaches around the world are being cleaned up. It’s a very large problem and thankfully there are companies using the plastic for construction, containers, parts and so much more. Great great work y’all!

I love this and .. Where can I donate some funds that will allow you to purchase wetsuits and protective gears for the workers? Coz they are exposed to some scary looking waters .. and I just want to help anyway I can. Thank you to anyone who involve in helping clean the planet.
