The Korean style pancakes are called "hotteok" and they're very different than western pancakes! Usually filled with brown sugar or honey and nuts, or there's a savory version with vegetables and glass noodles. The pancake layer contains yeast, which contributes to the chewy texture of the pancake. They're served piping hot with inside contents spilling out like lava, so of course Andrew would approve xD

Koreans prepare 2 types of pancakes that are very common: jeon and hotteok. Jeon have a liquid batter and are cruspy - traditionally savory with slivered or chopped vegetables. Hotteok is what that Trader Joe's version is. It is a bead-like dough (sometimes yeasted) that can be filled with sweet brown sugar, sweetened red bean filling or various savory fillings like clear, yam noodles with mushrooms and green onions. Hotteok are to be cooked to have crisp extrrior on a griddle or skillet while maintaining a little soft dough texturesurrounding the filling. Sooooo yum!

The Korean pancakes (jeon) are supposed to be crispy, not like American style pancakes. They are a popular street food and also come in savory styles like scallion. If you have an Asian market nearby I recommend you try some as many (all?) are vegan and my guess is that the price is better.
@MakeItDairyFree2 жыл бұрын

You're not wrong about what jeon is, however, these pancakes are actually Korean hotteok (호 떡) not jeon. They're filled with a sweet filling (some type of sugary filling or even sweet red beans) but they're also common street food filled with glass noodles and veggies (like Japchae). They are also NOT supposed to be crispy but more chewy and kind of like a little pita pocket instead.

I think of Trader Joe's as progressive, so I was disappointed to see their greeting card saying, "I found a Vegan, sugar-free, gluten-free, whole-grain cake, but I think this card might taste better! Happy Birthday." That plays into people's prejudice, that vegan is for people who are on a health kick and into self- denial and that vegan products aren't tasty. Vegan products aren't just for vegans. They're for animal welfare and the environment. I wish Trader Joe's would create a greeting card with that message! Thank you for doing your part.

The issue for me is that I hardly ever, seldom use microwave sometimes to heat up my tea which I’m going to start doing!don’t believe in Eating vegan foods, and then putting the product in the microwave to cook it, it just does not make any sense to me! I think that the Microway is destroying the whole concept of doing natural and vegan!!! do some vegan I need to go straight to doing something natural as possible! I have a suggestion sometimes when you’re going back to describe the products it would be helpful if you name them again, instead of saying this one, which some people might I can’t see what you’re talking about!!! I know this might take take a couple seconds of your time, but there’s all but will be very helpful! for those who don’t see what you’re talking about!!! naming the items you say this package, with this one there are people that have different challenges, and may not see what you’re actually talking about. Overall, I enjoy your videos! Thank you
