I saw that same Trotec video a couple of weeks ago myself and very much had the same reaction, their video's started popping up in my feed recently, handy really seeing as we've got a Trotec machine at work.

Use a press when you glue your inlay. That’s what the pros do for cnc inlays. It just looks so good. If you dent any wood add water and heat with iron to make it swell, then when dry do your sanding. Hydraulic press is best. Cool video btw.
@makeorbreakshop18 күн бұрын
That’s cool, it might be a little different for this, unlike the CNC inlays which have the sloped sides from the v-bit that can guide them into place. Since the veneer is pretty thin I actually found I needed to work the inlays into the pockets a little slower.

Very clever way of using veneer with a laser. 👍🏽 I do this with my CNC but the level of detail you can get from a laser is very impressive. I will probably try this on my XTOOL S1 this weekend.

@gabrieleveronelli161010 күн бұрын
How does it came out? I’m thinking to buy a xtool but my fear is that there is not enough definition (dpi) to do such kind of works
@ExploringLifeWithChris10 күн бұрын
@ I made a couple of projects using this approach and both came out really good. So I would highly recommend giving this a try. 👍🏽 Regarding my XTOOL…unfortunately I do regret my purchase for one main reason…their support for Lightburn is subpar and I really don’t like the way Xtools software manages layers and power settings. It looks pretty but the way Lightburn is organized just makes it ten times easier to turn layers on & off and see what each layer is set to at a glance. When I bought my S1, I didn’t know about Lightburn at all. Anyway, if I could do it all over again I would find a laser that is 100% compatible with Lightburn and not one that works but has major limitations.

I once used a Mazak Optiplex 4020 Fiber III laser to engrave the image with Vader in the middle on stainless steel. I was the lead laser operator at the job at the time lol. For the record those are like a million dollar laser. It engraved insanely fast. Like a deep engraving in 10 minutes or less for a pretty decent size.

That inlay trick was very cool. Inlays are one of the main reasons I wish I had a CNC. It would be very cool to pull off an inlay with my diode laser and do much more intricate designs that I think a CNC can do.
@makeorbreakshop22 күн бұрын
A diode laser could totally do this! In terms of detail your going to get pretty close to what a CNC can do, plus you can do multiple colors/wood types using veneers and laser vs the solid wood you'll need for a CNC.
@Mmcl983722 күн бұрын
Trotech put out some amazing tips. That inlay process is really cool. Also, I've had success with using Powder Coat Paint and curing it with the laser to fill engraves. Deep engrave, fill with powdered paint, engrave again (different power settings) and you've got a perfectly detailed paint job.

Oh using the laser to cure is a really cool idea!

Great video really like the inlay projects. I use Gorilla tape to remove/weed the masking tape off the engraving. You waste tape but it saves a ton of time.
@makeorbreakshop22 күн бұрын
great idea! Do you mean you tape it to the top after cutting the pieces out to transfer?
@danthemakerman22 күн бұрын
@@makeorbreakshop So I mask the wood, put it in the laser and engrave it. Then I spray paint the engraved part black, then once the paint is dry I cut a strip of duct tape and stick it to the masking tape on the wood and pull the tape up. The duct tape pulls up the masking tape and can get all the little itty bitty pieces. It make comic book corner are pieces with a lot of fine lines so this saves me the trouble of trying to use a dental pick to peel off all the small masking tape pieces. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for sharing, what kind of laser printer would you recommend and wattage? I’m asking as I would like to try doing something like this.
@makeorbreakshop22 күн бұрын
You'll need probably at least a 10W laser just so you can blast through the material and get a deep enough engrave. Basically any diode or CO2 machine will work since the beam can't cut the metal. The higher you go up on wattage just means you'll be able to do the deep engrave and cut the veneer quicker.

Lang verhaal. Maar alle voorbeelden in de video zijn van amateuristische kwaliteit. Een amateur plukt plaatjes van internet net als jij. Een pro ontwerpt zijn eigen dingen en levert veel betere graveringen.

I see why we’re lacking sponsors. I highly suggest researching the art before judging and actually putting criteria on it. This is the first n my many years of KZbin I’ve seen that is just ridiculous and desperate. I gotta go judge some KZbinrs.
@makeorbreakshop18 күн бұрын
Could have had a sponsor on it just chose not too. Also not really sure what you’re talking about on the artwork side. I never was trying to judge the artwork, just wanted to show some different techniques regardless of the artwork you are using.
