In my opinion each of them has a lot to offer that the other doesn't in this community. I honestly follow many channels for 3d printing for that reason, them being aware of it and not trying to be competitive is a good thing.

Great video, Angus!!! I'm going to start using Meshmixer. Once I tried to make a hollow object to make a moneybox and it took me a lot to make it on Fusion because of the geometry and the amount of triangles .

I use meshmixer supports for FDM printing all the time and have never had a problem with my printer knocking them over. I much prefer them to the standard support style. Also, I haven't ever had any issues with my slicer and I don't even "bake in" my supports using make solid. I just export the model as is after adding supports.

Another reason to create holes (aside from drainage) is to prevent suction. If you print a hollow object like the bunny on a resin printer you can get a lot of suction. A trick for making holes is to make them a standard size so that they can easily be filled with some styrene rod. There is also a program that saves the pieces from the holes as separate parts so you can put them back in the holes after printing but OTTOMH I don't remember which software it is that does that.

I tried the adaptive remesh the other day it's no fun having it switch every time you move anything in the menu. Even the strongest variables maxed don't seem to do much. Smoothing is almost easier to just remesh for a higher count and then sculpt. Upgrading my computer finally has made a world of difference though could never do it before. Thanks, for the meshmixer tutorials the program is great.

I've never had much luck with the tree supports. I was using Print Studio at the time and despite fiddling with the density, etc., they always came out so fragile and sometimes didn't offer support at all. I might try Meshmixer as I do like saving material!
@hazonku6 жыл бұрын
Super helpful. I just downloaded a STL that looks lovely but has no chance to print well on FDM printers. Now I might be able to do a remix that'll actually print on FDM printers.

I'm rendering the remesh with the same settings, and yes, it takes forever, but it's not lagging my computer since it only runs on one core (so I can see this video @ 1080p and 1.5x, partly limited by my Internet speed). Could that be a thing of the Mac version?

Meshmixer is not a slicer, it's a mesh editing program. The .stl files you export will work in any 3D Printing slicer.

Keep a copy before using remeshing! I see people on ThingiVerse overuse the remesh feature, then people like me who try to fix the model for real (manually) sometimes can't get a version with sane geometry, even from the original author.

It's a pity that Meshmixer go out of their way to prevent Linux users using the tool. Wine is not an option since they break wine compatibility regularly. Pretty rich given that the original software was funded with public research money.

I have a mate who runs a prototyping business with heaps of CNC machining. He won't use AutoDesk/SketchUp etc because the files aren't "his" IP - they're held on AutoDesk's server and he feels he's then stuck with AutoDesk? Not really an issue for MM, but it is from the same stable. He has a point - I run two businesses, and Xero (accounting software) got us hooked about three years ago (it is good!), and then upped all their subs last year. Our subs costs rose by 100% and there was nothing we could do without dumping all our financial records. Similar story with several other SaaS packages.... :(
