As someone who grew up in the 80s, I am very familiar with the D&D satanic panic. I actually got my books confiscated when I tried to bring them to a place with a bunch of religious kids. Fun fact about Ozzy and the bat: it wasn't one that was thrown on the stage, it was a live bat that got confused by all the noise and ended up on the floor infront of him. Now his fans had the tendency to throw rubber bats and snakes and he'd by the heads off as part of his act so he didnt think it was weird until he realised it was, in fact, a live bat he'd just bit the head off of. Dude had to get rabies shots.

Satanic Panic and the crime story of Damien Echols was inspiration for Eddie in Stranger Things. Very similar to John's story, as he was a D&D player, who liked metal music. He was labeled a satanist by media and was sentenced to death, but later found innocent. Sad story.
@lizjarvis689 Жыл бұрын
They actually never said the west Memphis 3 were actually innocent. I believe they still made them plead guilty but just changed the sentence bc the govt wasn’t willing to admit they were wrong. The other 2 didn’t want to take the deal n wanted to keep fighting, but since Damien was on death row, they went ahead n took the deal, so he wouldn’t get executed, even tho they would still be considered guilty and have a record

I grew up in a really small town and they were super religious but my family wasn’t so I was immediately outcasted. It didn’t help anything when my 6 year old audacity popped off and I told my whole class that we were “devil worshippers”. It also didn’t help when they called my metalhead grandmother at home and she laughed and hung up.
@kristinamillion91662 жыл бұрын
Ctfu! My grandmother was very much a Christian. A true Christian who lo Ed everyone regardless. She told me religion is a journey and it's up to each individual to find their own beliefs. I had told everyone I was Wiccan as a kid. I wasn't at that point, but the school did the same thing. My grandmother told them off. She also took her shortv80 year old attitude up the high-school and smacked the vice principal cys she had the nerve to tell my grandma she wasn't my legal guardian. She was absolutely the spice grandma. Lol.

Love the way you tell the stories. You so call us out on our humanity and the mob group mentality we occasionally find ourselves in. Thank you for the reminder to know the facts and to always make our own logical decisions.

PERFECT example of parents being like "teachers are SUPPOSED to raise our children!!" Also parents: "LET'S RUIN A TEACHER'S CAREER BECAUSE THEY TOLD MY CHILD "NO" "

This makes so much sense now. I remember shows I watched for years, all of a sudden I couldn’t watch anymore like Hey Arnold and Courage the Cowardly dog. I think they even tried to cancel JK Rolling (the first time) because her Harry Potter series included witchcraft. Wild times

I know I've said it before and you're probably sick of me saying it again, but you make me happy and you teach me new things, Bailey, and you give me hope that things will get better eventually. Everyone have a happy and scary Halloween!

I have the book of Michelle Remembers and it was in my hometown. The cemetery they did their worshipping is called Ross Bay. It's huge! But it's a beautiful place to visit.

I had small children when that Martin School thing was going on. It seemed too fantastical to be true. I was skeptical. That poor family that ran the school.... 😢

They did an independent investigation while the property was in escrow and found the tunnel and little sandwich baggies that the children described. As someone who has experienced SRA, I'm actually really sad at the ease in which it is so easily covered up.
@NikkiC7772 жыл бұрын
I can't believe that the parents, and police, actually believed that any of the teachers in the McMartin case, were actually flying around the room. It's scary that actual cops and doctors were all believing that that was a even possibility.

When I was little my dad, when I wanted to pretend our house was haunted, told me that doing that was satanic. Same with when I wanted to be a vampire for Halloween.

😂 Samhain, thought to be what American Halloween is based on, is simply one of many end of summer festivals around the world. Samhain literally means 'end of summer'. The year was divided into summer, the light side of the year, and winter, the dark side, and if you buy a wheel calender on Amazon you'll see that Beltane/May Day is directly opposite of Halloween/Samhain where it is also said "the veil between the two worlds, the world of the living and dead is thinnest", this is because in the northern hemisphere deciduous forest the dark side of the year was associated with death and the underworld and the light side with the living/summer/this side. Bel was a deity and the name means bright/shining and Beltane is Bels fire/summer festival.

I live right by Lake Geneva WI where DnD was invented. Really excited to watch this! One of my sons and nephew play it constantly. I highly doubt it will make them worship the devil. Haha. There is even a museum here, in case anyone wants to visit. And people visit Gary Gygax's grave and are very respectful. No satanic rituals being performed.
