Hi friends, happy Thursday!
I stumbled upon this wild story around 3am the other day. It's about Claire Sylvia, who faced serious heart issues and underwent a successful heart transplant. However, upon waking up, she suddenly craved beer and Chicken McNugget, things she had never really enjoyed. It turned out her donor, upon investigation, had a deep love for both. The more Claire learned about him, the more she realized she had adopted aspects of his personality. It got me thinking-does this phenomenon occur with every organ transplant? And now they're talking about using pig hearts-will we all start behaving like pigs next? So many questions!
I appreciate you for coming by, and tune in next week for more Dark History.

I donated my kidney to my best friend 7 years ago. It was extremely interesting going through the transplant process with her, meeting with so many doctors, psychologists, the anesthesiologist, and the donor advocacy team. She was actually on the waiting list for like 7 or 8 years before I donated my kidney to her. She has to take anti-rejection medicine everyday for the rest of her life, but she is happy and healthy and we are still best friends to this day. I would do it again for her in a heartbeat. Shout out to all the other living donors out here ❤️🙌🏻

My brother was pronounced brain-dead in 2020. We donated his organs. Signing that document was the hardest thing to do… to end life support. I’ve never told anyone, but every year I bake a cake to celebrate the recipients on their transplant anniversary. It sounds crazy or morbid, but pieces of him living on in them is what helps me get through. Maybe it is morbid, but he loved cakes and celebrating. I will never know them, but I hope they are healthy and living life to the fullest… craving cake and Mountain Dew.

He was so sick my MIL had started talking to the funeral directors already and it was one of those the hospital called middle of the night situations. My FIL didn't have any serious changes but the man is literally a cow boy works on a farm and has always really liked westerns and such okay. I have a story! My grandfather had stomach/Intestine cancer as a teen, and so when he was 16 (and still living in the Netherlands 🇳🇱) they replaced his stomach and small intestine with a pig stomach and some pif intestine... He cannot eat cooked pork anymore, it makes him violently ill... but he can eat raw pork without a problem! He's been known to eat raw bacon before (and gets banished to the garage to eat it 😅). Pigs are definitely cannibals. And my grandpa is turning 90 next year, and he's still going strong! Cannibal pig guts and all 😅😂🥰

My oldest son Brandon had cystic fibrosis. He had a double lung transplant on December 30 2004 at the age of 15. He did well for 2 1/2 years. He was in acute rejection & chose to do an immune therapy instead of another transplant. He was almost 18 years old when he passed away August 16, 2006. Throughout his life, he helped with research for cystic fibrosis. His wish through transplant was to live like a healthy person. He obtained that goal for almost 3 years.

Oh really, i asked AI about pic to human heart transplants, snd who lived up to 2years with it,..... and here is what it said, BRACE YOURSELF The term "pic to human heart transplants" seems unclear. If you meant "pig to human heart transplants," as of now, pig-to-human heart transplants are experimental and rare. One notable case occurred in January 2022, when a genetically modified pig heart was transplanted into David Bennett Sr., who lived for about two months post-transplant. Unfortunately, no documented case exists of a recipient living up to nine years after a pig-to-human heart transplant, as these procedures are still in the early stages of clinical trials.

Unfortunately, a heart transplant is one of the most difficult transplants to do, with the highest rate of failure. I’m sorry your dad never got his chance at a new heart. Liver transplants on the other hand, are one of the easiest. One donor’s liver can go to several transplantees, since I believe only one lobe (or less) is needed to be able to transplant, and they will regenerate the rest.

Shout out to South Africa 🇿🇦 but Bailey, you didn't mention the kind-of-dark history of the world's first heart transplant in South Africa: Dr Christiaan Barnard became a legend, an overnight international superstar whose fame was almost on Beatlemania level, but in the past few decades it's been claimed he was helped in the procedure by a black man who was his lab assistant, Hamilton Naki. This was during apartheid, and many believed the story was hidden and he wasn't given credit because of the ruling oppressive racist government. The conspiracy theory was debunked, there is no proof he conducted the procedure or was even there at the time, and he himself never said he was involved at all, and it would have been illegal and unethical to allow an unqualified person to carry out such a huge and risky procedure. But he did play a critical role in helping Dr Barnard understand and perfect the procedure, assisting with practice transplants on animals for years in preparation for human transplants, and his knowledge of anatomy and surgical skills were lauded by other surgeons, but he never got his dues because he was a black man living under apartheid. He wasn't even allowed to study to become a surgeon because of these racist apartheid laws. Cape Town has the Dr Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital, and a square is named after Hamilton Naki for his contribution to the medical field.
