I used to do Phlebotomy in a hospital lab, and one of the ladies in histology told me what happens with the amputated limbs when I asked. So basically, there is a biohazard bin in a freezer that contains these amputated body parts. They will contact funeral homes to cremate these body parts together then the funeral home disposed of the ashes. It was a cool learning experience for sure! I hope this answers that question for others that may be curious about it! 😊

37:35 I've only taken basic psychology in college, but we did cover a bunch of disorders. Body integrity identity disorder (BIID) was one of them, and it fascinated me too. It's not as strange as it sounds (although, of course, to people without it, they can't fathom wanting to go through the trauma of having a limb removed). Basically, a healthy brain maps out the parts of your body for it to control. "This function recognizes the arm." "This function recognizes the eye." Etc. But in people with this disorder, their brain failed to map a part of the body. So to that person's brain, it's kind of like having a parasite stuck to you. It's a foreign entity that is attached to the portions of the body that the brain does recognize. So it's traumatic for this person to constantly have this foreign object stuck to them that their brain is literally unable to recognize as their own body part. Something else that might help to understand this is that it's the opposite of the phantom limb syndrome. That syndrome is more known because there are far more people who have lost limbs (war, accidents) and have reported experiencing it. Their brain had mapped out all of their body parts at birth. When they lose a limb, their brain still has that body part mapped out, or at least the nerve pathways are still there. So they experience pain "from" that limb, even though that limb is no longer there to cause it. It's just the existing neural pathways misfiring. So phantom limb syndrome ---> brain has whole body mapped; lost a body part, but retained the map BIID ----> brain failed to map a portion of the body; body part has not been lost, brain fails to recognize that it belongs there
@denicedetroit2153 Жыл бұрын
Wow! Very, very interesting. I enjoyed reading about this, I've never heard of this before? I heard about people whom have had to have their limbs amputated because of serious car accidents, emergency medical reasons, war veterans etc. And yes, , they do say that they it does indeed feel like the amputated limb is still there. My uncle had a very serious car accident where the medics had to amputate my uncles left leg, from just a little below his left knee, inorder to be able to get my uncle from out of his absolutely frontal crushed car. So yeah, he said that? It's interesting because I have never EVER thought about, or thought that there are people out there, that literally want their own limbs surgically removed, because to them it's literally like having some sort of foreign body on them? That's extremely interesting? Thank you for sharing this? 🤔😊♥️👍🏾

I've seen one person wearing two different shoes (one sneaker, one hiking boot???) with their shirt completely wrinkled and stained, one pant leg tucked into a sock, and both shoes untied. My half sister and her mom got a 2 for 1 deal on gastric bypass surgery in Mexico…there were armed guards at their hospital rooms and bars on the windows. My sister is now completely messed up…they both got their surgeries, flights and “aftercare” for $1,500. The “deal” just isn’t worth it people!

As someone who is a seasoned vet at having surgeries… so many I actually stopped counting after 25… But this sounds like an absolutely terrifying experience what your half sister/her mom decided to go and do to themselves…! For people wanting to go through procedures in shady places bc they're cheap: DON'T DO IT. Not only you're risking your life in doing it, it will most certainly end up costing you a whole lot more when you end up going to a certified professional to fix your botched surgery. Sometimes the cheapest stuff become a whole lot pricier by the end of the line.

As someone who is transgender, And has also had surgical procedures in connection to being trans; this is absolutely terrifying. I mean any invasive surgery without proper sanitation or numbing agents is going to be painful and not a fun experience to say the least.
