Nice work young man. I would suggest wearing the quiver slightly lower to facilitate ease of pulling out arrows. I use a back quiver for carrying arrows but pull about 6-8 arrows to use in a thigh quiver. It is much easier to grab a second arrow. I am a bow hunter and once in a while need a second arrow when harvesting a deer. It's been a little over 60 years since I began shooting with a long bow. Instinctive "off the knuckle" archery. I switched to an Asian/Turkish style bow but still shoot "off my knuckle." No sights and no shelf although I do own a Korean (Samick) Horse Bow with a shelf on both sides of the grip. I am learning to use a thumb ring too. Have fun and never loose your interest in primitive archery. I am 70 years old and still shoot regularly.
@danieljones94635 жыл бұрын
" I would suggest wearing the quiver slightly lower to facilitate ease of pulling out arrows." Yes, I can see where this might work too. I was thinking shortening and mounting the quiver a bit higher, in order to grasp the shafts below the fletching. Hmmm. Now I don't know which way to go on this. David? Do you think it is better to grasp an arrow at the nock, or below the fletching...when drawing it out of the quiver?
@kathleenmodersohn98724 жыл бұрын
@@danieljones9463 always grab an arrow from below the fleching. Grabbing from the nock can cause you to drop the arrow and it can also damage the fleching. Thats my expirence any way with competion archery.
@danieljones264 жыл бұрын
@@kathleenmodersohn9872 Thanks, Kathleen. "Below the fletching" it will be from now on. I have dropped the arrow when grabbing the nock. I might have to wear the back quiver higher to help me do this. (bulky frame body) Will switch to side, or thigh quiver in the Woodlands.

Poracchia, thank you for watching this video. I am not sure what thickness of leather I used for this project. I just went to the leather supplier and found a piece that felt thick enough to hold it's shape when I rolled it into a cylinder. For the thread I used a thick waxed nylon cord. Sorry I don't have more details.

"Miles" is it? Looks to me like you did a fine job on this project. It's a good looking quiver. Thanks for sharing this video with Us. It and others like it, helps all of Us (who aspire to be better leathercrafters) to become more skilled in Our projects. You mentioned that this back quiver gets in the way when you're shooting. it didn't look like it got in your way at the end of your presentation. I did notice that you snagged the arrow a bit, when pulling it out of the quiver. Due to the length of the arrow and grasping it up on the nock. I have had this problem too and on my next quiver project I will try to make the quiver a little bit shorter and mount it a little bit higher on my back, so that I can grasp the shaft of the arrow below the fletching. This will give me a head start on the distance to be drawn out and, hopefully, clear the quiver more easily. What do you think about this corrective idea? I am 73 years old and have no qualms about seeking your opinion about this.
@MakeWithMiles5 жыл бұрын
I think that idea is right on, thank you for watching!

Quick question What did you use for the inside it was some green material I didn't know what it was?
@MakeWithMiles7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. I used some green pile fleece that I found at a fabric store. After using it a bit I wish that I had only lined the top section of the quiver with the fleece and not all the way down into the bottom. When I insert arrows into the quiver, the tips of the arrows catch on the fleece which is a bit annoying.
@danieljones94635 жыл бұрын
@@MakeWithMiles And I was wondering if broadheads snagged on the top inner folded leather lip. Probably no problem with target and field points. I do wonder what would be the best kind of liner...so that broadheads won't snag? And could said liner be installed over the inner folded leather lip?
@Sage-qd6tf5 жыл бұрын
So I tried making my first quiver a year or so ago, and its awful mainly because I was using suede, I didnt have the right tools and I didn't measure right. I did use it at Denton and it worked all right with a couple safety pins added. However, I think my uncle got tired of looking at it (which is understandable, its blue and pink and horrible and he actually knows how to do stuff with leather). He let me borrow a quiver for a different shoot we went to. But, I figured out that there is a hole in the bottom of it where the seam is. But it was well made it's just old, so I measured it and decided to make my own. Well I dont have a big enough piece of leather, so I'm sewing multiple together. Luckily I have two large storage bins with bits and pieces my uncle was throwing out (he had too much and hadn't used it "4 years or so". So. That's where I am for now.
